Umm, okay.
That picture is relatively funny if you get it. I agree, the US sucked the big one at UTMB. People keep complaining about how you can't train for it here in the US, which is pretty stupid. Go to Utah or Colorado, pick some trails that run up and down a lot of big climbs and drops and run them over and over. Kilian wins because he logs the most miles with the most vertical. It's not really a shock that he's 100 times better than the Americans. I think Anton would fare pretty well at a race like UTMB if he could stop injuring himself, but that doesn't appear to be something that will happen anytime soon. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Roes's wins and fast times at a race like Wasatch were a fluke. He's more built for quicker and easier courses and Skaggs/Krupicka would absolutely annihilate him in head to head competition on the toughest 100 mile courses.
did you take the time to make that?
Well, it wasn't too hard. http://www.ragemaker.net/
Sad, so how did you do at utmb?
1) Killian does not log the most miles. He doesn't run hardly at all while he's ski-mountaineering racing in the winter.
2) Killian has not out-performed the best performances of Roes and Krupicka on American soil, and vice-versa. His winning WS this year was at a level below what Roes and Krupicka did last year. They've still not battled head to head at full strength. UTMB this year was inconclusive if you're judging America vs Europe. But I haven't heard the reasons for the DNFs.
3) Roes was practically unbeatable for 3 years. You call that a fluke? And do you realize that one of Roes' strength is his climbing? If anything, he's not as good at crazy high elevation because he hasn't adjusted to it yet. By the way, he's been trying to get into Hardrock to prove himself there. My explanation of this lackluster year is that his body is starting to breakdown from pushing so much in the last 5 years and often when sick.
To Turkey Leg-
Roes had entry into Hardrock 2 years ago but decided not to run it.
To Raptured-
Also what tough mountain 100 has Anton ever run? How can you say that he would annihilate Roes in head to head competition on the toughest 100 mile courses?
Geoff has won the HURT and Wasatch. Anton has won Leadville and Rocky Racoon. Both of those are not climbing races.
The legend of Anton grow bigger and bigger every year. Just like that fish my dad caught when I was a kid.
I thought the whole point of ulta running was to invent some events where US runners can succeed?
I was waiting for the "So how did YOU do at UTMB" comment.
Two years ago I finished back-of-the-mid-pack, I didn't run this year due to focusing on HR (which, I DNFed - Fail)
I'm also not an 'elite' who talked smack about there not being a good championship race or lack of competition either.
Come on guys. This website is called LetsRun, not LetsHike, LetsWalk, LetsComplain!!!! Lets discuss Running for goodness sake!
Overused internet memes are overused....
trolololo,
I don't have a dog in US vs whoever in the ultra fight, but the fact that you created that image and then went onto post it here shows that you are clearly off your kilter. Get a life and get some help.
I have never heard Jurek complain, but maybe I missed something. He has done very well against Europeans in some races. Spartathalon comes to mind.
OP is totally right!
I would pretty love to see Anton Krupicka running on a Volcano in our race La diagonale des fous (the madmen's diagonal) .
To me minimalists are mainly hippy hipsters, what the point of running nearly barefoot if you are getting injured in the process...
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
