Fleshman in the 5k? Any other surpriss expected?
Fleshman in the 5k? Any other surpriss expected?
I would be so impressed with USATF if they broke down their inhibitions and named a 3rd person to the W5000 team - I think there is no way they will do it tho - too afraid of the precedent.
I think we will surprises in both the women's 10,000 and the women's 5,000. We know Angela B's place is open. I wonder to if Kara G may opt out due to injury. What about Huddle? If her PF isn't doing well, that could be another spot. I'm not saying all of the above will happen, but I think there may be a surprise or 2.
Stephanie Rothstein tweeted that Ben Bruce was added to the World Championships. He was 5th at the trials.
Nelson, Huling, Bruce correct?

If it is expected, it is not a surprise.
Vin Lananna is a head coach.
Fleshman will absolutely be named to team.
the precedent has always been that the top 3 with A standard from the final will go. It's not until this year that they stipulated "only top 4" can chase standard.
They've changed the rules almost every year, it seems. Hopefully they'll do what's best for the athletes and send a full team if they are able.

Please explain this.
What makes you think they're going to waive rules and add Fleshman?

I am 100% sure. They offered the position to Desi but she turned it down. Fleshman is the next A.
Why would Desi give up her position?
Because Kara is going to turn down her position and that puts Desi in the 10k.
I've been updating A and B for every event over on TFN site. The first post on this thread has the most up to date info, as far as I know. Can't tell if people turn down positions though.

With the stated rules (only top 4 go for the A), it's going to be interesting.
The decision will mean either:
(1) They are a bunch of self-centered controlling bureaucrats that place silly rules above the interests of athletes and the nation (by leaving Rhines or Fleshman off the 5000 and only sending 2 athletes); or
(2) The stated rules about top 4 don't mean anything.
Either way they lose.

Rhines wants to run the 10k. Next on the list is DAVILA (not Fleshman). Davila has turned it down, That leaves only Fleshman. Yes they will fill the team and ignore the top 4 rule. It is a done deal.
Remember, you're talking about USATF here. I wouldn't put ANY crap done to athletes beyond them. I mean, we have to show those athletes who's boss, don't we?
If they left Fleshman home just to protect the sanctity of their silly rules, it would not surprise me in the least.
Of course, I want her to go, but what part of John Chaplin and cronies do you not understand?
I am not speculating. It is already done. Fleshman is in.
Fleshman in the 5--Kevin Hanson tweeted it in a reply to David Monti! Davila did indeed turn it down.
Oh I forgot...Trevell Quinley posted on Facebook he's in the long jump, and Bryan Clay is in the decathlon.
Why didn't usatf think of having a world championships show online like what they do when the NCAA has its Selection Sunday show for the basketball tournament?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
