Depends on the point in your career. I ran 10:15 for 3200 in high school on 20 mpw..trained March-May for track, August-November for cross.
Fast forward to junior year of college after bumping up to 100+ mpw base work (12 - 15 weeks) and I run 24:45 for 5 miles cross and 30:35 10K track.
Congratulate him/her on a job well done.
Congratulate him/her and ask if they want some company?
Work on your punctuation.
Wait, a guy does two and a half times his normal mileage and runs faster? This is groundbreaking! No one has ever had this happen in the history of running, ever!
Now tell him to do 4 weeks of 70 at a high intensity, then tapper. Probably run even faster.
Clearly you should run 100 miles slow and 40 miles fast each week to cover your basis.
^or cover your bases. Just cover something.
Ah nice catch... I was going to jump all over that one. Seriously though give some more miles a shot. Everybody is different, some people do better with super high mileage some with less. Obviously there is a something to be said about simply running more.
Find some slower friends so you stop feeling inferior to your friends.
you should run 120
Tell him to cut back his total mileage to 70 to 80 miles a week and increase the speedwork, and he'll knock another 30 seconds off his time. Worked for me.
Work on your (current) weakness. That's all your buddy did.
You should probably run 200 mpw and drop two minutes.
100 mpw trains you for 1 thing: 100 mpw

100mpw trains your aerobic system for everything from the 100m to the marathon.
Pay him to race under your name.
Yeah, running 100 mpw is definitely NOT going to help you in a 100 meter sprint.
just run baby.
