LucKY, I'm with you on the end of the school year crunch. This is always a stressful time of year for me and it showed at my race in Dedham. My running was pretty good but I ended up with dry heaves during the race so my time was a PW. I went out too hard and sure paid the price. Just dumb pacing on my part. My team won our AG, I scored as 3rd runner, and I out-sprinted one of my competitors at the finish so it wasn't a total loss.
Sun - Dedham 10k (49:56 - 5th) Age Grade = 82%
Mon - 5 E, 2400 yd swim
Tue - off
Wed - 6.2 Fartlek (12 x :50H/:40E), :55 Biking
Thu - 7 E Hills
Fri - 6.3 E , 1:00 Biking
Sat - 10.1 E, Triathlon Clinic
I've found that my age grades stay pretty consistent. My longer races (5k and up) grade higher than shorter ones but they pretty much have stayed consistent from year to year. I've had several races over 85% but 90% is a pipe dream for me. I don't use the AG converted times either since they are meaningless to me but I'd love to be in a race where the overall winners were determined by age grade instead of time. It would be fun for young people to be beaten by some great masters runners!
