Week 310
*************************
Salutations, 50+er's! First off, Happy Mothers Day to you Moms in the group; hope you'll have some quality "me" time today.
I wish I could say that this week went gangbusters, but alas I had a severe allergy attack that pretty much snowed me under for a good 4-days. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic and am feeling motivated, so I'm in a better mental frame than I've been in a while. Only logged 21+ miles as such:
Sun: Off (too busy, graduation, yard work, etc.)
Mon: Off (allergies)
Tue: 4.2 truncated intervals w/2x375,2x750 (felt like crap)
Wed: 4.1 easyish (7:36/mi) (felt like crap)
Thu: Off (allergies)
Fri: 4.0 moderate (7:15/mi)
Sat: 9.0 variable pace (7:36/mi avg) w/2 ~5-min breaks
(Feel free to skip over this, it's mostly self-indulgent drivel.) Sunday was the first day in a long time that I could finally get some yard work done, and believe me, the grass needed mowing badly, so maybe 2-hours of mowing counts for something. I think that also is what precipitated the allergy attack, that then was exacerbated by red-level pollen count Monday through Wednesday. I took Monday off trying to stay indoors, then against my better judgment, I tried to do our usual track workout Tuesday...it didn't go well. I forced myself out the door Wednesday, which was a mistake, so I took another day off Thursday hoping to squelch this thing. The rains came Thursday afternoon and dropped the pollen count to almost zero. After steady rain all of Friday, I was finally coming back to life, so I took a stab at a short run with some effort late Friday afternoon. Saturday morning was much better, still pretty phlegmy, but no longer feeling like I was under water. I was actually able to get my longest run in since the fall. Technically, it was more like three short progression runs with 5-minute breaks in between, but at least I got the miles in; about every third mile was at about 7-min/mi pace. The downside is that my right hip and hammy were pretty tight afterwards; did a lot of roller and stretching last night and things are a little better this morning. Should be OK by this afternoon's group run. We'll see. That's my protracted report...much ado about not much running.
Props to KP, SCGal, Not half fast, mo'pak, Charlie, Allen1959, MikeF, and all the others that have been racing these past couple weeks that I've missed. Cool stories about the "old days" racing in California. Would be fun to see some of you take down those age-group records.
Looking onward and upward.
All the Best!
