Week 121
*************************
Hello 50+ers! I think it's October....hard to tell, humid and 80's doesn't feel right. But hey, at least I'm back to running some; thanks for all your well wishes and suggestions. Actually got in four sessions and a stress test this week. My 22 or so mile log reads as such:
Sun: 5.2 mostly easy + postrun
Mon: off
Tue: PT session, 5.2 mostly easy
Wed: 3.1 w/1@5:42 + postrun
Thu: Bruce protocol treadmill test 16:20
Fri: off
Sat: 6.7 mostly easy
Of course, every day also included the exercises that the PT guy gave me from the previous week. I also saw the PT guy Tuesday, and he did some more mobility tests---trying to assess progress, but also try to figure out where the weak link is. He's confident that I'll be back to full training within a couple more weeks. Certainly feels like it. Two weeks ago, running two days in a row was unthinkable; now I'm feeling I can probably run 5 days a week (and I sort of did).
The 1 mile at 5:42 on Wednesday felt controlled, but exhausting. It felt good to push it. That was followed the next day by a treadmill test. This was not ordered by the PT, but was something that our club organized to help out a team of cardiologists that were running the Bourbon Chase 200-mile/12-man relay to raise money for Hospice of the Bluegrass. Some people didn't seem to understand that you're not supposed to hold on to the bar during the test; I was careful to do it earnestly, never touching the bar. According to the formula, it puts my VO2Max right around 60....which seems about right (not that I really know what to do with that number.)
OK. So progress is good. Hopefully in a few more weeks I'll be back to full training.
Good luck to those running the USATF Masters 5k or Marathon Championships today! And best wishes to those with big races on the near horizon!
Hope you are all training/racing/rehabbing well. As always, I look forward to your posts; I'll try to be a bit more interactive this week.
All the best!
