Cool story bro
He took the 3200 out in 57 for the first lap. Kid doesn't know how to pace.
Nasty double.

Not if he's going to Harvard, he won't. Fantastic performance though.
Sounds like a male Jordan Hasay.

Regardless of pacing he ran the US #1 time. Its also hard to pace without a watch or other runners to key off of. In addition, how many HS runners do you know that can open up that fast and hold on to run an 8:48?
The pacing is definitely questionable, but the fact that this kid has guts is not.
Not #1 when you convert to two miles, but hella good double.

Yes, national leader outdoors when converted. Faster than Moussa's 8:49 in a loaded Arcadia field. Orman was very, very sick that day and still managed 8:55.
I've been watching him for years, and he is perhaps the most underrated runner in the country. The conditions were pretty bad (even for the 3200, temps hovering around 93 degrees and VERY dusty air) and he ran a completely solo, gutsy state record.
Kid is mega-talented and if he gets pulled along in a race with good weather, he can go deep into the 8:30s.
Is he a big mileage guy like the guy from arizona that won FL then went into the military?
Sorry thought Arcadia was full two miles.
If he wants to continue to develop as a runner he should reconsider attending harvard. There are plenty of good schools out there where he can get a good education and be a great runner, Harvard is not one of them.

Chenoweth seems to be doing ok with his 13:45 so far this year. I've heard good things about the coach there from people who actually have run for him, not the pathetic trolls on letsrun.

You sure? That's crazy if it's true. A 57 would def put some lead in the legs of a guy like him, and to still run 8:48 solo, in supposed 93 weather...is insane.
Wish I had been there for the run. I just moved here last summer from Washington. I can guarantee that it was 93 degrees yesterday so you can take the "supposed" out of the last statement. Not sure how he did this double as it was 100 degrees when he ran the 1600 Friday. His actual time in the 1600 was 4:07.xx. he was less than a second off the state record. He was originally scheduled to run the 800 too but the paper indicated that he did not run.

You can't guarantee that it was 93 when he ran.
Well seeing as it was around 97 or 98 all day, and when the meet ended at 11 it was still in the 90s, he can guarantee that. I was at the meet and when Billy ran around 9pm, 93 sounds right. The dust and pollen in the air, particularly around the check-in area, was ridiculous.
I think he went out in around 62. He has a very good sense of pace, actually. He had very bad heat exhaustion yesterday after running 4:06 (yes, it was 4:06, not 4:07) in 100 degree heat and probably wasn't fully recovered. Looking forward to seeing what he can do in the future....
Billys 1600 splits were roughly 60 63 62 60. The 1600 was run Fri afternoon at 4:30 in full afternoon sun and temps at 100. Pretty bad heat illness afterwards.
Splits for the 3200 were 64 67 66 66 66 67 66 62. Conditions were near perfect at about 9:30 pm Saturday. No wind, temps probably mid 80's, not sure.
Billy is going to college to study, not run, but he'd love to continue running there. He's not high mileage, about 60 mpw max. He lives at 5000 feet.
Videos hopefully up on YouTube in a day or two.

I guess if you are a desert foxx mid-80s temps are about perfect, pretty hot for most 5k runners.

Billy did NOT run 57 his first lap, even in the 1600! I believe he ran 65 then cranked out 66/67 for a few laps. He definitely knows how to pace.
