Mile 2 10:38 for Kim
Pack 10:58
Kim is famous for running fast times on her own and has a tailwind behind her back. If there ever was a year someone could try and steal the thing this is it.
She runs fast on her own, but there are other good runners here. So, is this just a foolhardy start?
thanks....TV stated 1st mile was 525...i knew they were wrong
5:21 for the second mile then. Nice course is flattening out as well. looks like the hard apce is planned. Boston live blog on RW (yes I ahve deserted to this) confirms that.
Men start in 11 minutes
I'm pulling for her but trying to solo the Boston Marathon from mile 1 is no easy task. I think regardless of how used to time trialing a race she may be.
According to tv coverage, she's 36 seconds out front.
Doubt she'll be alone at the end. Tough pace to hold for that distance. Look for Kara to make a move at some point. She's got a few extra red blood cells working in her favor.
No, this is a dangerous move for the rest of the field. Let Kim go out alone with a big tailwind and her chances of winning skyrocket. Someone needs to bite the bullet, bridge the gap and take the wind out of her sails (literally).
5k splits: Kim Smith 16:41, the pack (including Goucher and Davila) at 17:11
This is the perfect day to try something like this. They have a hurricane at their backs. Plus as others have mentioned, Kim Smith has virtually soloed before and pulled it off. This is certainly interesting, the other competitors will have to make a push at some point if they want to win it, or hope Smith slows down.
Smith looks like a gremlin
I agree with this poster above. It seems like the field is hoping that Kim crashes at some point. If they are +1 minutes behind Kim at the half, it should be Kim's race to lose. Remember, Boston is very hard to negative split/ second half is uphill...
Who the F is Roger Robinson. He is providing some epic stupid commentary ("nuggets of wisdom worth paying attention to") on the RW live blog.
Smith 1 second off course record pace...
16:41 for smith is sub-2:21 pace. Seems reasonable if she is as strong as she feels.
With that tailwind, I agree with the guy aboce who said she might pull this off!
Kim is doing a Paula.

He was a very fine masters runner, the husband of K Switzer, and an encyclopediac expert on the history of distance running.
2:20 is like a 2:23-2:24 with that tailwind (according to JK). This is smart running by The Gremlin! Kind of sad to see the race won so early! haha
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
