Maybe the times were at a Kenyan district meet not picked up by IAAF rankings. There are plenty.
Also, they seem to have split FASTER than that pace for a LONGER race.
Your whining is like someone saying "I don't believe your 31:00 10k, all I can find online is a 62:00 half marathon"
Finally, they may have altitude-corrected their times in talking to the reporter. Not cool in my books, but nothing every US mid-pack XC runner doesn't do. ("Um, my 5000 PR? Well, I was injured last year...and the year before that I didn't get in a fast race...and the time I had perfect conditions I ran slow but my last lap was <70s...oh, my actually PR? 16:40")
