However, this week James of Alabama, who is just 17 years old, ran his first ever indoor track race and ran a world leading 400m time. This is by far the greatest performance in the NCAA this year, and the year may end without anyone beating out that performance.

Yes, LR should mention James' 400. Although, given the bias/emphasis on distance running on LR the oversight is not entirely surprising.

Yes, he was. 1:52.8 NSIC champ, March 15, 2009. As much talent in the 800m as Elijah Greer, but a better head on his shoulders, a better work ethic, to compare with that article on Greer from last year where his coaches were frustrated with him.

Andrews won the NSIC 2009 800m indoor championship with a time of 1:49.21. Beach came in 4th in the 800 with a time of 1:52.

It's possible that Beach has as much talent as Greer in the 800m, but Greer ran a 1:47 open time and won the US Outdoors in the 800 as a high schooler. Beach's (unofficial) 1:48.2 800 split time was marvelous as a college freshman. I really don't see how you can make judgement about someone's head and ethic from an article where Greer was pretty transparent about his struggles that particular day.
