Well, I am glad my 2:26 spot is going to someone as important as Valerie.
At least she is raising money for cancer...
RIDICULOUS!
Insane!!!! Funding 'Cancer research' is a bigger scam than Global Warming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eveyone knows that they already have a cure for cancer, but are making too much money on more 'research'.
This is all the fault of the same guys who have the car that gets 200 miles to a gallon of gas. You'll never see that either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you ran 2:26, how are you not in? Did you miss the deadline? If so, how is that her fault?
Who does the Boston Marathon benefit more from:
your 2:26
her celebrity
Not a tough call. Nobody but your family will care that you ran, sorry to say.

Yes, I missed the deadline. Not her fault at all.
I totally understand your point, it just sucks that Boston has come down to preferring celebrity over times.
I know 2:26 isn't very fast, I have no pipe dreams of being a pro runner.
I am fine with all of the races in the world preferring Valerie over me, but it was nice when Boston wasn't about charity runners and celebrity appearances.
my man in my day your 2:26 would get you a bib # in my race just as it should today shame on the BAA for turning my race into a god damn circus

This is Jenny Craig stuff? Isn't her participation going to motivate way more people to participate than your participation? This is something that will help many people to get motivated to get healthy and in shape. Charity is a good thing. Health awareness and action is a good thing. Cancer cures and treatments are a good thing. Celebrity appearance is a good thing. Your 2:26 is good and I wish they'd let you in for the sake of the depth of the race quality, but don't get upset or mad over this. You're being selfish about something that could actually help you and those you know (cancer, diabetes, health).

No, I understand, and that is why I am for people being involved in ALL other marathons. Fine, totally. I think it is great.
Boston was different though, it was about racing. It was about running fast and competing.
Would you say the same thing if Valerie was running the Olympic Trials? I mean, some races are sacred, Boston used to be one of those races.
You don't let Valerie play in the World Series to raise money for cancer.
I understand Boston is not the same as the OT or WS, but you get the point.
Can somebody start a petition to replace Jenny Craig with Jenna Jameson?
If this were the Valerie Bertinelli of thirty years ago, nobody would be complaining.
i am going to call it right now, IF worknesh kidane and/or meseret defar decides to run the boston marathon she will beat bertinelli by OVER 5 minutes, in fact i think if belainesh gebre and/or teyba naser run boston they will also beat bertinelli. and those are fare races as none of the women mentioned have any marathon experience yet.

post of day for sure
She's gonna really feel what "one day at a time is like" at Heartbreak Hill. I say she doesn't break 7 hours.

Boston allows more qualifying runners now than ever before in the history of the race (not including the 100th anniversary race). It's not all about charity runners and celebrity appearances.

Boston has not been one of those races since they "saved" it by offering prize money.
Some would say Boston was never one of those races
2:26 is great. I agree that I preferred Boston more w/out charity runners and celebrities, although I appreciate the benefit of money raised for worthy causes.

It's not a fair race unless they all get to start at the same time. If Valerie Bertinelli doesn't get to start with elites, it's not a fair race.
Apparently you people didn't get the press release:
Ali Vincent, former winner of The Biggest Loser is setting her sights on Boston. The Mesa, AZ native says "It's my FIRST full marathon and I'm scared to death. But you don't have to win the race, you just have to do it".
Would love to hear Tom Derderian's (Boston Tom's) opinion on the sellout that used to be the Boston Marathon.
I'm sure that they benefit greatly by holding to a deadline for sub 2:30 runners. Otherwise, where could they fit all of them? There would just be a torrent. Why would you want some comp to run with for the few early birds who can hang with our 2:26 guy?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
