To me, it looks like Simmons was the only one who could manage Cabada's excesses and develop him in the right way.
It is really up to Cabada now. Jones ain't a magician. I'm sure Cabada knows how to train and how to limit his drinking.
It's all up to him now and I don't really so Reebok keeping him on the roster unless he does something.
hey that is a quite harsh assessment to post. has his training being going well? you must know since you are posting his drinking habits on the this board.
I say 45:1X with a potential push from Jordan Davis. Ill let you know when I reach the finish line 10, 15 minutes later! The race has not seen this kind of talent in many years.
1. Cabada has been with Jonesy for 2 years. Why ask this question now?
2. Fernando, and his addictions, are just like a girl with an eating disorder. You will see some very good performances and then a crash, followed by long periods of nothing. Then the segment starts all over again.
This guy ran a 25 k american record, then ran some awful races and then disappeared. He then ran a very good 2:12 marathon and followed that up with a 2:35 in the WC and a dns in the Olympic Trials. He then disappeared and came back and won Twin Cities last year, he followed that up with a bunch of crappy races then pulled out of the WC in Berlin and has been MIA since.
Cabada got injured in June and had to pull out of world champs. Injuries happen. The guy is doing well in his running career and has accomplished more then most elites in his career, he still is only 27. Sure he isn't a hall or ritz. Besides the top tier, who can say they have won 2 USA championships and has an American Record?
Cabada has a lot of demons. Simmons was able to loosely point Cabada in the right direction, without giving him coach imposed restrictions to rebel against. Simmons is able to get into the heads of athletes and has a real good sense of what motivates them. Jones doesn't get into anyone's head - nothing wrong with that, just different skills.
A guy like Cabada is his own worst enemy. Most of you have no idea about the level of issues that someone like Cabada has, and how difficult it is to manage someone who cannot stop the behaviors that sabotage their own success and wreak havoc on the lives of those around them.
Didn't Jones get Cabada to win a USA marathon championship under him? I'd say he has got him on the right track.
46:15 for this weekend race for Cabada. First race back, not the best of shape I'd imagine.
since you know him so well what has his training been like? is he training for another marathon or targeting shorter races?
i like to hear about his weekly mileage and some of his workouts not about his addictions or drinking...this is running forum not Dr. Phil
Quick to be negative? What times have you run Meaux? We thought so!
he will run at least 5 minute pace for the 9.3 miles thats for sure. I say he\'s gonna be aroune 44:15 - 45:30
if your addictions have an impact on your work, then you have a problem. cabada has a problem. if you don't know this, then you are part of the problem.
How fast was Bill Bowerman? How fast was Joe Vigil?

Who needs friends, family and success when you have me?
What did Cabada run? Any results
He ran 46:35, for a 15k. He won. The time however, IMO, is very unimpressive. I guess if it is his first race back then its ok, but he has really fallen off if this is indicative of what kind of shape he is in. Hopefully he just used this as a work out and will race faster. Good luck Bada!
who is Cabada?
Some guy who pulled a knife on his old coach..oh and he has some worthless american record that nobody ever goes after
A wortheless records that equals 13:22 for 5k, 27:45 for 10, 1:01:46 for the half, or a 2:10:12 marathon? That doesn't sound particularly unimpressive to me.
