Motionless start, of course. I would expect the runner has the fastest initial acceleration, but would the others have time to catch him?

i'd put my money on speed skater.
Would the competitors be using the same drugs that Bolt uses? Or would they be clean of all illegal substances?
Easily the runner.
speed skater
The Chris Thater Memorial Races used to have a demonstration event between a pro inline skater and a pro cyclist at about 100 m as you describe. Both times I saw the event the skater got a far quicker start but the cyclist would catch him at about 70 m and won by a good margin. I'd expect a sprinter to get an even quicker start before getting caught by both the skater and cyclist.
Caverdish versus Bolt in a 100m.
That might be even more interesting than Bolt versus Bekele.
Mark Cavendish > Apollo Ohno > Bolt
Is the cyclist allowed to be clipped in at the start (i.e. held) and will his bike have gears?
Does the Bike have Gears?
First of all, Cav couldn't beat me in a match sprint or standing 250m, those rode guys are fast, but not track sprinting fast.
A top level track cyclist can do a standing 250m in 17 secs. I can't remember what the breakdown was for the 100m, but i bet it would be a close race!

Wouldn't Chris Hoy beat Cavendish on the track?

Cavendish is a trackie turned road rider.
Albeit in the endurance events on the track, but I could imagine that he can turn a decent, if not earth shattering 250.
And no, I doubt you could beat him in a match sprint.

I don't know the details of the races but it has this Yuya Oikawa guy doing 9.45
Sounds like it would be a really close race. They should do it, it might pull Bolt to a new world record.
Where the hell are you suppose to have an event that allows for a speed skater to race Bolt in the 100 meter. Aren't all speed skating rinks a circle? What gives.. I say if the race were to take place it would have to be the 60m. It's indoors and could probably be adapted for a 60m straight away ice way.
oh yeah!!!! wrote:

It would be really really really really easy to make a 10m x 100m ice skating track next to a 100m Mondo lane.
Three parallel lanes would need to be constructed: one ice, one mondo, and one velo surface. BTW, I'd put my money on the guy with the greatest mechanical advantage -- the track cyclist.
I would like to see an alligator in the race, along with a greyhound confined to running only on the ice.
Slow day Mark?
