107 miles for the week, with a short tempo, a short fartlek, a long tempo, and a 25M long run. I'm still rather slow, but my body is finally beginning to get used to the mileage. I can't wait for the weather to start cooling down a bit!
Right now I'm watching the women's marathon on Universal Sports' video-on-demand service. Universal Sports has done a great job; I would have been happy to pay for this kind of coverage, but of course I'll take it for free too! :-)
Hope everyone has a great week!

Hi. Just turned on worlds. I'm kind of missing occassionally seeing Solinsky and Teg running around Madison.I went car shopping yesterday at Subaru and they were practically sold out. I was shocked. They had like 2 cars and a lot that was full of clunkers that were traded in. So I went down the street and hopped on the bike trail and ran about 6 or 7. I ran the Lake Wingra 6.2 loop on Wed and on Thursday did Blue Mounds hills. There's a longish medium grade hill and then it levels off and about the time you catch your breath there's a steeper hill. I made it which was questionable because I had never tried before and was a bit intimidated. Going to grill some chicken now and eat some fresh green beans, tomatoes and cole slaw. People around here this time of the year eat alot of sweet corn and it's delicious but I try to stay away from it as much as is possible because it's like candy. Have a good week. TC
Hello everyone,
Good week for me as I ease down for Hood to Coast, followed by a vacation to Maine and then a business trip to Japan. It's been pretty muggy here in the twin tiers of NY - not hot but the air is very thick. In spite of that, the miles are coming to me easily at a good pace rather than me reaching out for them, if that makes sense. Workouts this week were 11x400 with 1 minute rest and 4x1600m in 5:25 +/-5 secs with 2 min recoveries.
Found out some good news with respect to interesting races next year. Our corporate team was invited to compete in the JP Morgan Chase Championships in Johannesburg, SA next March. It's a long way to go for a 3.5 mile race, but hey, I'm not going to turn down an expense-paid trip. We can't keep up with the young guys, but we'll do okay considering our youngest runner will be 41.
Now back to the IAAF meet on NBC...
Nice cool temp week again up here. Great for workouts. Loving the Worlds. GReat Double for Lagat! Bekele is just unbeatable at this stage.
Put up 65 miles with my once/twice a-yr 10k effort to test my summer fitness. It went well, but I slept a bit for a couple of miles before getting it going again. Pleased though.
Mon ~ 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 min hills
Weds ~ 2 miles in 10:00 felt good
Sat ~ 10k ~ 32:36 hoped for about 30 secs faster, but I have manage my racing expectations with age.
Sun ~ 1:45 on the trails
BBQ U Later

68 miles for the week. Mostly easy with a good progression run on Monday and a Lydiardesque long run yesterday. Lots of great races in Berlin! Saw the Crim results. Paul Aufdemberge blazed a 50:33 for 10 miles! Wow!
Took my first strides yesterday after tearing my hamstring a little over three weeks ago.
I've spent the week at Bethany Beach in Delaware and have cycled every day. I know it isn't healed yet , but the cycling hasn't caused any pain. Swimming in the ocean ( except for when Mike came rolling through ) was also good for body and soul.
I could get used to this beach living , but where would I find any elevation for hill workouts ? At this stage of my recovery , I'm looking for level turf.
Happy trails.
this was my test week, and while i didn't get the news i wanted, it's okay.
i figured now was make or break time for an october marathon, and with my injury in march was just really having a hard time getting my legs to respond to mileage and speed. i ran a half marathon on saturday and just didn't have it. so...no fall marathon for me.
had a fair week non the less. right at 60, and i took today off and rode the bike for a while instead.
sounds like the right decision. I'm sure you'll be back in top form soon if you stay patient.
fun week for me -- working around my world champs-watching schedule (Bekele vs. Lagat in 5000 was one of the best races I've seen in quite a while), I ran 65 miles incl.
--4-mile tempo sunday in 23:24
--18 miles weds. with 3 + 3 + 2 (1:00 water fountain breaks) at marathon pace (intended 6:12/mile, actual average 6:08). Was going to do this as a continuous 8-mile segment, but I really needed the water breaks. So humid. I heard later variously 73 or 77 as the dewpoint that morning.
Back to school in the am -- even last week you could tell the difference as American U students were moving back into dorms, crowding the weight room, etc. No more semi-private gym like I have in the summer.
have a great week.
Put up 40 miles so far this week.
Mixed in some 4 min repeats on hilly single track Mon.
2:10 on the Birke trail on Weds.
Ladder repeats at 5K pace Thurs night(200's;400's; 600's)
We incorporated a 5K fun run/walk at our local fair this year and were surprised to draw 153 entrants for the outing on Saturday
The course was 75% granite covered trail along the Black Creek. Most comments were positive. High schoolers took the top 4 places in the low 18's. I chugged in at 20:08, 8th overall and 2nd 50-59.
TC's warnings are out there, but that corn on the cob is just too good to pass up.
Happy running and healthy training to all.
My week suffered from some truncated workouts due to kids. I decided late to run a 5k on Saturday to remind my body of what VO2max pace and the roads felt like. The result wasn't quite as horrible as I imagined, but it wasn't all that good. My htc and xc teammates were ALL ahead of me, even though they were running the 10k and I was in the 5k - pathetic. I did get 3rd OA and first master in the 5k (cherry-picking, I know) and apparently the 2nd place girl was shocked when the announcer mentioned I was almost 50. ;-) There were great performances in the 10k, including Tony's excellent masters win over some very good competition. My teammates blasted great 10ks - they look fantastic and I'm inspired.
I thought today's long run would suck and my legs were tired from the wee little race, but about 20 minutes in, I started feeling really good and had to hold myself back from making it an 18 miler. I'm sure I'll be dead tomorrow.
Next up, a trip to LA to bring my daughter to college and then immediately thereafter, htc.

Is this legit? We had a team receive an email about this but I was on a winning team and did not get this information. The website does not say anything which made us believe it could be a hoax.
Had a real nice 86 mile week here. Just continuing to rebuild my base for the Fall. Had my usual three 'good effort' days: Tuesday was a steady 12 miles in the hills while on vacation in Northern MI. I was pretty happy with Thursdays middle 5 of a 12 in 28:52. It felt very comfortable, finally, after struggling with my Tempos the past few weeks. Saturdays long run was an 18 miler right at 7:05 pace. The rest of the days were relaxed runs...
I'll shoot for another 85'ish week next week. That will be my 5th in a row, something I have never done. Then I'll back it down a bit and try to get my legs back for a Labor Day 15K.
I'll add another congrats to PaulA's 10 miler...Wow!
Dave
The invitation was sent to our caption, who forwarded it to us. It had the JP Morgan Chase letterhead and logo and looked completely legit. I don't see anything online though.

I spent Wednesday through Saturday in Orlando getting my son settled into college. My god, can you say humid? I am very spoiled with the lack of humidity where I live (and you CO people --you know who you are--are also lucky!)
I didn't have time for any workouts during my trip, but I had a very hot 100 degree interval workout (6x180 at about 80% effort, holding good form, 1 minute rest) on Tuesday. Then this morning it was cool, only about 62 degrees for a hurdle practice. I hadn't hurdled in about 3 weeks and I know I'm going to feel it in my flexors and groin tomorrow.
Good luck to those running the Hood To Coast, and all other upcoming races as well.
Greetings everyone.
Not a bad week here in the midlands. Able to get in 3/4 of a sceduled workout and the volume was able to be a tad more consistent. That said, I found out just where it is in this hole I'm in as I did a half this weekend. Kind of a relief to know where it is I am instead of wasting tons of emotional/mental effort guessing, which affects me physically. Very humbling but at the same time motivational.
Have attempted to get my airfare refunded or even switched to a locale to take my wife to on vacation instead of going to Twin Cities but no luck so it seems I will make the best of a bad situation.
Very impressive times for the guys in Michigan!
Worlds are over. Now what? Rented a movie to fill that void. "The Wrestler" good, but..for a masters runner, hmm..., an old washed up wrestler, competing with heart problems, not so happy a theme. I clutched my heart a few times to see if it was in fact beating.
Thursday, 400 m all comers meet, 60.3. Dropping about 1.5 seconds per attempt. "Just" keep that up a few more times, right?
Today: 4x300, down to 43. Felt very good after. Happy to be out doing this kind of thing. This is about it for now for me. One more race next week. Sub 60?
Good luck to you Hood to coasters, etc.
Ran a "challenging" half marathon in 1:29 on saturday. Felt more like a training run as I am not in good enough shape to actually race that far yet. It was my first half in 5 years since my accident. It will take a lot of work to get close to what I ran the last one. I am hoping to knock off 5 minutes or more when I run a flat half in October.
Got in 56.6 miles for the week, with taking Monday off. Finished up the week with a 14 miler, averaged 6:35 pace through 11 miles before I started to overheat and slowed to 7:00 pace. 2 weeks to a 30K race that will be the real test of my fitness. Also running a 5K XC race this Thursday night.
A mild recovery week (46) for me after four weeks of increasing mileage (mid/upper 50s). On Thursday I went to the track to do 3x 1 mile (vs 4 previously) at lunchtime. The first two went well (5:17s) but the heat (95 degrees) killed me about 600 meters into the third. Slowed to 90 seconds from 600-1000 before stopping completely. My throat was raw the rest of the day from sucking in hot, dry air.
My XC season starts this weekend in Santa Rosa. Looking forward to it after skipping all of last year.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
