They're not well-travelled, so they think Texas is the end-all and be-all.
Austin is pretty cool, I almost lived there; I haven't been too impressed with the state overall.

Austin is the liberal enclave of Texas.

And you think that is something to be proud of???
I think that Texans, more so even than Southerners, are putting forth an alternative vision of what it means to be an American and to have an American culture. It is a vision in which gender roles are more traditional, men aren't metrosexual but instead hard workers who provide for their families, and where people treat others with courtesy and sincerity rather than ironically veiled slams.
You may or may not like this vision, but I think Texas is doing the only red state that is actively putting forth a different vision of how to be America rather than lamenting the loss of the 1950's.

It would seem you feel that "metrosexual men" aren't hard workers who provide for their families?
How is it courteous (or sincere) to define men (all people) so narrowly? Isn't that incredibly DIScourteous to men (people) who don't fit those traditional portrayals?
Your ideology makes no sense and seems defensive. Defensive people are small minded. I live in Texas have for many years in many parts. There is no evidence that Texas is better or worse than any state and to think so is foolish. Texans need to dial it down because if inventing Dr. Pepper is all you've got then Atlanta would like to show you a thing or two. Lonestar? really? Wisconsin makes better beer and that's not a compliment. That was a joke at your expense learn to take it all the other states can. The problem is your attacking Windmills. It's pointless and you know it. The reason other states don't go around waving their flags is because pompous pride goes before a fall. They are smart enough to know that everything isn't better in their state. The Biggest trees in America are in the west. Do you hear them bragging about them? No, they are proud of them but not an empty boastful pride. That is what the rest of the country doesn't like about Texas. The saying goes. it is better to be considered a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Everything isn't bigger in Texas, and the only thing that makes it special is that it is part of a great country. It is easy to see why people are annoyed by Texas boastfulness. It's empty and stupid, and petty. Texas is a really cool place and has some good and some bad people like everywhere else. It has some lovely landscapes and some real holes. I like living here but I don't love it. That doesn't mean you shouldn't love it. Maybe it is perfect for you, or maybe you haven't seen enough of the world to know. Regardless, keep the southern pride, but dial it back to say Alabama levels. And for Pete sake stop slapping your flag on everything that moves. We are in Texas we know where we are get the chip off your shoulder. Even you right wingers know that it's supposed to be God, Country...Not God, state. Be proud just not obtuse. If you ever become a Country then go nuts with your pride, just let me get the heck out before Mexico really makes you it's female dog. Your basically little Mexico now in the boarder cities anyway. I know I've worked down there and been told to rent a cheap car so my more exotic personal car doesn't get me car jacked and driven across the boarder. Texas is not good or bad it has challenges like anywhere else. Stop pretending to be something you never were that the rest of your brother and sister states already get. I swear if I see one more F-250 parked in front of an apartment I'm going to throw my whataburger at it's windshield. All hat no cattle aint cool anywhere. You do not need a diesel Truck to drive to your Walmart gig. Anyway, I digressed a little but you get the point, and you know in your heart I'm right. I have much love for you Texas, but I love America more.
