No worries, man. My theory on training is this: The first 2/3 of your perfect race rely entirely on your aerobic base. the next 1/6 or so is your anaerobic training...and that last 1/6 doesn't fall into place until you've raced several times and done some sharpening work. You're really close, and I'm sure by the end of the season your last lap will be your fastest by far! |

I think it's safe to say that anyone who wants to seriously join this thread is welcome to do so. If you just post a week of workouts and vanish, though, the people who have been posting here will probably ignore you. Beer steak - you sound pretty damn close to the coveted sub 4. i might have the opportunity to beat you to it - i'm probably going to race the 1500 easter weekend. (maybe the 8 - haven't decided yet...competition's better in the 8) good luck to everyone racing! eddylee and ron specifically, but it's getting a little hard to keep track. best of luck with the pf, sair. it's a hard thing to deal with - i found just being really disciplined about always wearing the right shoes helped tremendously. past two workouts: 8 sets of 3 min on, 2 min off - starting at 10k pace, going down to 5k. pretty tough. 3 sets of 3x300, 60 rest, 4 between sets descending 3k, mile, 8 pace started out at 51-52, then 47-48, then 44-45 everything was fairly easy except the 44-45s. the last one was a bit of a struggle. mileage mid 50 to low 60. if i keep it on the side of 60 i think i'll be okay - i'm aiming for increasing it in the long term but with the track season well underway i don't think it would be wise to do so (in a big way) now. |

eddy, respect to you in your quest. For sub-4, use a different strategy than running for place. DO NOT WAIT FOR THE TOP CURVE! Go early, and GO HARD, at 300, or around the BOTTOM CURVE, just after the bell, and hit it hard. You will tie up, but you'll be maxed out. |

dang eddy, you've made huge strides since last time i was on here. boingo, as always your workouts make me think you are ready to dip under 4. i was really sick for 2 weeks and am trying to claw my way back. earlier this week i was supposed to do 4x1000m in 2:43 with 3 min rest, which turned into 2:45, 2:50, 2:55 and then getting cut off. today was better. 2x6x400m with 90s between reps and 3 min between sets. 66 the first set with a few 65s, 65s the second set with a few 64s at the end. if i run the 1500m next weekend, i'll be shooting for about 4:05. if i can do that and stay healthy i know i'll be able to shave off the 6 seconds. |

I don't know if this has been suggested, but when you're trying to get through a barrier-you don't want to be "fighting" it. It sounds like you need to do some short, quick stuff so that you can practice running fast while relaxed. Not running fast while tired, but while relaxed. Like one day a week (do a morning run and then in the PM do a quick warmup and drills before this light workout)-do some flying 50s = 100m strides with the first 50 at a relaxed stride pace with a quick change of gears at the 50m mark. But it must be relaxed. This will also help you learn to change gears in a race, which is important for that final surge over the last 100m. Other similar workouts are "workup" 200s. A 200 at 1500m pace; a 200 with the first 150 at 1500m pace with a 50m burst (say 6.5 seconds); a 200 with the first 100m at 1500m pace with a 100m burst (say 13-14 seconds); a 200 with the first 50m at 1500m pace with a 50m burst (19.5-20 seconds); a 200m at 26-27 seconds. But stay RELAXED! |

Keep on keepin' on Eddy. Personally I will return to this thread in maybe the Fall. I have no doubt as to your sub-4 potential but if you're only at 4:07 now on the training you've been doing it won't be this year...... |

2:43 1000's? Jesus. Who schedules 1000's at 1500 race pace? |

2:43 1000's? Jesus. Who schedules 1000's at 1500 race pace?[/quote] yeah....my coach gives us all the same time goals for workouts, and there are some really fast guys in our mid distance group. the worst part was that it wasn't even even pace, we were supposed to come through 600m in 1:38, "float" a 20 second 100m, and then hammer home in 45 for 300m. sufficed to say it was a workout over my head, especially coming back from being sick. |

In the first post EL indicates 4:16 in '07. 4:07 now. Thats really slow progress for someone his age. For 1500 another couple of years and improvement stops. Either somethings wrong or he's getting close to peak ability. I predict failure. |

Don't sweat it Eddy. Lots of season left. You're on target. You're still moving in the right direction. Nasty winter weather came through KC the last two days. Mizzou relays cancelled the second day. Most KC teams bagged the meet included KC Smoke. Rather live to run another day. Hey Pete... Stick it! Jack off! |
