Jonesy... you need to get your head straightened out and believe in yourself. Next time, step up to the start line to kick A$$. Holy crap! With those 1k workout times you should be at least a 4:30-4:33 miler or better right now!! Man, I wish I could do a series of 1k's like that... especially to do a sixth one and finish with a 3:03!! Awesome! Here's what Daniel's says on page 214 of 2nd edition: "You must learn to run fast and still be in control of your mechanics; run fast and not strain; run fast and still feel you have another gear when you need it. This is when having a high aerobic capacity pays off. It means saving anaerobic reserves as your final gear, rather than having to call on them to maintain the intensity of the midrace pace." As I've stated regarding the series of 100+ weeks... you have the reserves as evidence by you doing this awesome 6x1000m workout. You're on your way. |

I appreciate the wise words. That Daniels quote expresses exactly how I feel now and I just have to get in the intense mile and sub-mile race pace work and then I think that I'll have a good mile in me. The problem so far has been that I am able to run very comfortably at 5 minute pace, but fall apart at sub-4:40 pace. I aim to change that and I will change that. |

Training update: Solo 5k tempo on track tonight. 32 degrees in KC. 17:59. Goal pace was 84-86/lap. Didn't quite hit it, but managed to knock 30 seconds from the last time I did this workout back on 12/26/08 where I ran 18:29. Very pleased. Strength is there and felt it especially on laps 10-12. I think the hill repeats and the long runs are paying off. Followed up with 5x200m - 32.83, 35.43, 34.11, 33.98, 34.13 Aiming to run the mile in the high 4:20s by last chance Indoor meet at Iowa State Mar 7th. In the meantime, I hope to run one more indoor mile before then around Feb 21 where I'm shooting for low 4:30s. From thence on it's 1500m time. |

Aiming to get well under 4 minutes in the summer. Current Pbs are 1:57 (800m), 4:08 (1500m) and 16:31 (5k Road) At present i am following this training schedule Mon: 8 Mile Steady Run Tue: Am: 5 Mile Easy Run including several short hill sprints Pm: 20 x 200m, 12 - 16 x 300m with 100m jog recoveries. (Usually along these lines) 200s - 31s or faster, 300s - 44s - 47s Wed: 8 Mile Steady Run Thu: Am 5 Mile Easy run including several short hill sprints Pm: Hill Session - Ladder of up to 600m reps and back down. Fri: 5/6 Mile Easy Run Sat: 6 - 8 1k reps with 200m jog recovery in around 3:10 - 3:15s Sun: 10 - 12 Mile Long Run Do you think this will be enough to get me under 4 minutes? Or is there some adjustments that will need to be made? Thanks |

101 miles for the week, mostly in singles. Sick again in latter half. Did several five milers on the track (Monday, Wednesday) easy at about 6:10 pace. 6x1k Tuesday in 3:12 down to 3:04, in trainers. Sunday, did 10x20 seconds hard, 10s easy (took me through most of a mile in 5:35), as per the runningart2004 thread. Half situps up to 175 yesterday. Started at 25 last month. Weights every day and have started squats and lunges with no weight. Knees are still weak from tendonitis but getting stronger. updates, eddylee, boingo, solojoe, sair? |

I haven't posted since page 3, but I'm back. I lost all of last track season to an injury, but since starting to run again in July I've posted these race results: Mid-October - 16:42 5k road Early November - 16:11 5k road Early December - 4:32 indoor mile Mid-December - 15:49 5k road Mid-February - 4:25 indoor mile I just keep chipping away. Training is going awesome, I'm able to do things endurance-wise that I never could before. My speed has always been good and it's still there, so it's going to be an exciting spring once I start sharpening up. |

thought i'd finally update. had a little setback in the form of bronchitis (i was hacking up blood for a while there, it was less than sweet). maybe a week off total. first workout back today, running the mile on sunday. 3x200, 2x300, 500, 2x300, 3x200, 600 90 rest all around except 10 minutes before the 600. hitting 30-31s, 46-47s, 1:18 for the 5 and 1:34 for the 600. faster than the last time i did this workout, and it didn't feel like trash...so maybe there's something to be said for bronchitis. my mileage has obviously been trashy for these past two weeks so i'm hoping to get it back up to 50 this week and then stay on mid 60's. it should be a lot easier now that the ice has vanished, and now i have access to a treadmill as well. hoping for sub 4:20 this weekend. we'll see how it goes! |

Missed 6 days of running the first week of February with an upper respiratory infection, coughing up a lot of junk. Following week: 2 great long tempo's, 6.5 in 7:43s, faster than that with a slow first mile, finished uphill. Next day 4 miles in 29:38 (7:24s, 7:04 miles 2-4) straight into a 6:45 mile on the track. Ran 2 600s in 2:00 and then 4 200s in 35, 34, 34, 34. Haven't had a good run since then. Tried a 4 mile tempo on the track today (hoping to make that a staple each week) in 7 minute pace. Stopped after 2 miles because I kept pushing the pace naturally. 3:29, 3:26, 3:20, 3:17. 13:34 and just figured I'll go back to the drawing board next week. |

442 this past weekend in Flagstaff. I'm disapointed that I was not able to break 440, but I am happy that I went after it in the first half of the race. We open the outdoor season this Saturday. I'm running the 1600 leg in the DMR and the open mile. Today we did 2x1600 w/ full recovery 440,454 conditions were warm and breezy |

Did I read this correctly: your doing a DMR and a full mile? That's pretty odd considering those are typically indoor only races. |

Thank you. I feel much better about my own running after reading this...thank you god for good endurance and 22 second 200m speed! ps, this entire thread makes me feel good about myself. Here's to another 1000 posts of wimperingly slow times and pathetic training! |
