i'm so happy for her that she broke the american record and even happier that she broke this particular one because it was held by a cheat. however, saying that she did it the right way raises a flag to me. she didn't look extremely sick but she was definately beyond that line separating fit and unhealthy. female distance runners particularly walk a tightrope with their weight. they must be thin and ready to roll but they must not be unhealthy. i was at the meet and saw her up close and she looked like she was beyond that line, although not extreme, certainly past healthy. kim smith is very thin because that's just her body and although she was as thin as flanagan at this meet she looked healthy, flanagan did not.
