Ross let up at the line and missed out on the final auto spot in his heat by .03. China’s Lijiao Gong won the women’s shot put as the USA’s Raven Saunders & New Zealand’s Valerie Adams took silver & bronze.

2020 Olympics Day 1 Morning Recap: Wale Runs, Ferlic & Bor Go Home, and Fast Times in the Women’s 100

The Olympic action got started this morning and it was full of drama as the US, Kenyan and Ethiopian champs in the men's steeple all failed to make the final. Benard Keter will be the only American in Monday’s steeple final but Canada has two guys in it. In the sprints, we learned the Tokyo track is FAST as in the women’s 100, 6 women broke 11, led by Marie Josee Ta Lou’s 10.78 African record.

History in the Steeplechase: The US Will Send Three Women to the Final for the First Time Ever

Emma Coburn, Stephanie Garcia and Colleen Quigley all advanced to Wednesday's final in the Bird's Nest after some quick qualifying heats. Coburn and Garcia both made it automatically, finishing third in their heats, while Quigley's 9:29 in heat 2 was enough to grab a time qualifier.
