Asbel Kiprop may have run the world's fastest time by over a second (3:29.33) and won four Diamond League races, but for the first time since 1971, an American man is the #1 ranked miler in the world as we can't pick against a near-perfect season from Centro that included victories at World Indoors and the Olympics and a world-leading time in the mile (3:50.63).

The Man Who Took Down Asbel Kiprop: A Week With Kenyan 1,500-Meter Stud Ronald Kwemoi
Our man on the ground in Kenya, Andy Arnold, was granted exclusive access to Kwemoi last week as the ninth-fastest man of all time (3:28.81 PR) prepares for his first Olympics. His coach, Renato Canova, would not be surprised if the 20-year-old Kwemoi, who beat Kiprop and several of the world's top milers in Monaco on July 15, one day breaks the world records at 1,500 or 5,000 meters.

Ronald Kwemoi Upsets Asbel Kiprop In Monaco as History Will Have To Wait For The 100th Sub-3:30 Clocking
Coming into tonight, 99 times in history a human had broken 3:30 for 1500. When Asbel Kiprop hit 800 in 1:50 low, it looked like we were well on our way to #100 but the final 700 wasn't kind to Kiprop who missed some training last week after his agent was arrested in Kenya. Instead, the winner was Ronald Kwemoi who went from 7th to 1st on the last lap.
