Coach Bobby Kersee Explains His Logic Behind Athing Mu's 2025 Racing Schedule
"If I was a baseball coach with a pitcher, if I sent them down to the minor leagues to throw a couple of innings to see how their fastball is working and see if their changeup is there and see how their arm feels after 30 pitches or 60 pitches, I wouldn’t be criticized," Kersee said. "So it’s basically the same thing." Kersee said he believes racing the 1500 will help make Mu a better 800 runner but said he also hopes she can run more 400s moving forward and that she can eventually break 49 seconds in that event.

2021 Olympic 800m Champion Athing Mu returned to racing a competitive field with a 4:10.70 2nd place finish in the 3rd heat of the 1500, former World Champion Jake Wightman got a nice win in the 1500 in 3:35, Olympic silver medallist Kenneth Rooks cruised to an 8:14 win, Oregon's Klaudia Kazimierska won the 1500 (4:03) over Emily Mackay, as Linden Hall (14:43) and Eduardo Herrera (12:58) got dominant 5000m wins with Herrera going sub 13:00 for the first time and taking down Arturo Barrios' Mexican outdoor record of 13:07.
