Hodgkinson just missed her pb by running 1:54.74 in her first race in 12 months, Faith Kipyegon Kipyegon came just shy of the 8:06.11 WR in the 3000, Kishane Thompson beat Noah Lyles, 9.87 to 9.90, while Masai Russell (12.19) and Karsten Warholm (46.28) set DL records in the 100H/400H.

Perhaps LetsRun.com was the only place people were freaking out as the clock neared midnight on the East Coast and Athing Mu still had not entered USAs. Never fear, she entered with 2.5 hours to spare, slightly ahead of what she did last year for the Olympic Trials.

"If I was a baseball coach with a pitcher, if I sent them down to the minor leagues to throw a couple of innings to see how their fastball is working and see if their changeup is there and see how their arm feels after 30 pitches or 60 pitches, I wouldn’t be criticized," Kersee said. "So it’s basically the same thing." Kersee said he believes racing the 1500 will help make Mu a better 800 runner but said he also hopes she can run more 400s moving forward and that she can eventually break 49 seconds in that event.

2021 Olympic 800m Champion Athing Mu returned to racing a competitive field with a 4:10.70 2nd place finish in the 3rd heat of the 1500,  former World Champion Jake Wightman got a nice win in the 1500 in 3:35, Olympic silver medallist Kenneth Rooks cruised to an 8:14 win, Oregon's Klaudia Kazimierska won the 1500 (4:03) over Emily Mackay, as Linden Hall (14:43) and Eduardo Herrera (12:58) got dominant 5000m wins with Herrera going sub 13:00 for the first time and taking down Arturo Barrios' Mexican outdoor record of 13:07.

Hodgkinson recently became the 6th fastest woman in history and leads the world by one second.

After Mu took the race out in 56.01, Moraa hung onto her most of the way until pulling away midway down the home straight to win in 1:56.03.

For the first time as a pro, Athing Mu didn't cross the finish line first in an 800 tonight but she still impressed us greatly. All 3 Americans will be in the final as well Moraa, Hodgkinson and Reekie.

Mu won her 800 heat in 1:59.59 while Sha'Carri Richardson led all 200m qualifiers in 22.16.

Mu is in Budapest and it looks like she will run Worlds, while Fred Kerley and Noah Lyles are feeling confident ahead of the 100 meters.
