Teachers work with individual, unique human beings, the teaching of which you obviously do not understand. Business pricks like you think of teaching as a manufacturing job using terms like "product" and "business model" and overfocusing on your precious numbers. You don't have a f*ing clue what goes into the job.
I'd like to see you take "5-6 hours" a day socializing and lounging - as you claim - with the following schedule set up just for you, business boy:
7:00 - Arrive at school. AM bus duty until 7:25. Monitor the arrival of 1500+ students. Break up fights & discourage skateboarding on property as needed.
PER 1 - Intro to Business 9 7:30-8:20
(27 freshman students, 4 on IEPS requiring individualized lesson plans, 2 ESL students requiring lesson plans forwarded to a tutor, and 7 gifted students who parents demand enrichment opportunities)
PER 2 - Economics 11 8:25-9:15
(28 juniors, each with career portfolios which demand indvidualized assessments: formative, summative, and performance based, 1 visually impaired student who requires materials magnified 300%)
PER 3 - Planning Period 9:20-10:10
(This time is yours. Fit in restroom use, coffee refills, email response to 10-15 parents, return phone calls to 3-4 parents, make copies for the rest of the week, plan future lessons and units, and grade if you can catch your breath)
PER 4 - Intro to Business 9 10:15-11:05
(29 freshman. Similar class as Per 1, except 5 students are chronically absent and your administrators demand that you compile homework packets daily to be dropped off in the office or emailed to parents - although you don't have electronic copies of handouts for this class.)
PER 5 - Global Economy 12 11:10-12:00
(16 seniors. This is an advanced elective course with students choosing inquiry projects. Projects are individualized and tailored to each students interests and needs)
PER 6 - Attendance Duty & Lunch 12:05-12:25; 12:25-12:55
(Required duty. File required paperwork + make phone calls to parents of truant students. ATTEMPT to eat your lunch in the time left over AFTER attendance is completed, which usually takes longer than the allotted time)
PER 7 - Economics 11 1:00-1:50
(26 juniors. Similar to period 3, but this class consists mostly of seniors who failed the class the previous year. Your principal demands that these students be taught "alternatively" using differentiated instruction methods.
PER 8 - Intro to Business 9 1:55-2:45
(25 students. Similar to Per 1 and Per 4)
3:45 - Leave school after meeting with various students after school, attending an IEP meeting, and making copies for the next day.
4:00-BED - Get whatever done you didn't have a chance to at school. When did you grade anything today?
TOTALS for the day:
151 students
6 presentations of content
3 different lesson plans, with accomodations and extensions for students as needed.
By the way, you make $35,000 a year and you need to complete a masters program within 5 years or else you lose your job.
I'd give you a week, tops. Fool.
