jesus, I'm 16, 5 9, 145 pounds, moderately muscular, moderately fat
is weight loss really something I should worry about with running? 5k PR is 18:14 from last October, probably weighed 5 pounds lighter

I was in better shape during XC season, probably could've run a sub 4 or close and a low 15 5k at 145 lbs

Really? Or are you trolling?
That poster's height/weight/PRs match almost exactly someone with whom I'm familiar in real life. I wonder if the poster's initials are B.H. ...

Second running life:

I need to get down to 140lbs for my next racing season, I really don’t know if I can get lower than that.
Not trolling. I haven't weighed under 140lbs since maybe sophomore year of high school, 150+- all throughout college, and have been 5' 8" all that time. I graduated a couple years ago, but have been sub-15 for 6 years at that weight. Hell, I'm not even a good mid-D guy, but I can throw down sub-70 in the half at 152lbs.
That’s impressive. I’m same height and have similar PRs at 5k and half at 130 pounds.
123 lbs not counting the water bottle, fanny pack and participation medal
Not sure about my time or distance
I was 120lbs at 5' 7" when I ran 14:26 (flat, road) and 30:33 (hilly, road) this past fall. I got as low as 117 when my body started to rebel against me. I'm up to 130lbs now and feel healthier. The next time I need to be at race weight I'm going to stop at 125ish. It just isn't worth being so light.

I know you don't want a story, but I feel like telling one. Read it, ignore it, I don't care lol...
I'm more of a huskier build than your standard runner - I come from a fat family.
I started running post-collegiality, and my weight was around 170 lbs at the start.
That was around 7 years ago. The past 2 years, I've found a good system of using weight as a major factor and indicator of training and fitness.
My training blocks are usually 6-8 months with a goal marathon at the end. I start at around 150lbs and 60-70 mpw. I'll build to 110-120 mpw, and gradually cut weight down to the low 140s. Within a month of my goal race, I'll see more and more days where I'm under 140. This is when I've run all of my PRs (from 5K - Marathon).
Post goal-race, I'll take 2-3 weeks off, during which time I lift a lot (like normal, non-runner lifting), because I can't handle not having something to blow off steam. I'll usually put on a ton of weight in that first month post-race. This usually puts me back over 150 pretty quickly (most recently I peaked at 156 lbs). Then I start over again. It's all part of the process, and frankly, it's kind of fun seeing the body change throughout the year.
I've always been fascinated by the training of professional boxers, wrestlers, fighters, etc. who's weights vary throughout training, and eventually reach match-weight the day before competition. If I tried to train at 138lbs for 365 days per year, I'd likely break down. It hasn't happened though because I work through these cycles. The past 2 years of repeating this process has brought improved PRs at the end each cycle, so I think this is the way to go.
I was 6'4" 177 lbs when I ran my 5k and 10k prs (14:34 and 30:20). Found it hard to get much lighter than 175ish consistently without feeling like crap and hurting my training.
