Without a senior season for HS kids and many college seniors missing out on their last year, looks like a great time to be a college distance coach recruiting wise. So who capitalized the most?
Anyone exceptionally getting it done on the recruiting front? Besides NC state of course!
Important to remember that head coaches especially ones with director responsibilities are not actively recruiting.
it goes without saying that the top teams at nationals tend to recruit best so your looking at BYU, NAU, Stanford, Portland, Washington, Oregon
they all have some built in comparative advantages; BYU has mormons, NAU has 7000 feet and flagstaff running Capital, Stanford has top notch education and Palo Alto weather, Oregon has nike money and history, Washington has dempsey + great education, Portland has all distance scholarships.
Of those the most impressive is probably NAU in that they have the education hurdle and Portland with lack of facilities, Portland rain and mid major funding.
Better question is what makes a good recruiter; communication skills, connections (often overlooked), ability to understand and relate to 17-22 year olds and understanding admissions + non-athletic scholarship opportunities, NCAA rules.
The two most important qualities are probably ability to relate and understand recruits and connections.
