You forget that Jennie first ran in an event that people didn't think women could do. The 3000M Steeple chase. She literally pioneered women's participation in that single event. Ran in the FIRST olympics that had the 3000M for women. Help create a generation of great women steeplers.
Jenny is standing on the shoulders of No One for that.

Joanie is standing on the shoulders of No One for that.

Amen . What was the longest women’s Olympic race before that ? 1500 or 3000? Two people revolutionized running in the USA- Frank Shorter and Joan Benoit.

Why do they say Joan had more votes but lost? How does that makes sense? Did they mean total votes through all rounds but less in the matchup round than Jenny?
Jenny had more votes at the deadline. Due to the Rojo editorial, Joanie overtook Jenny in votes after the deadline. They initially tried to get away with declaring Joanie the winner but had to give it to Jenny when presented with the evidence. Saying "Joan had more votes" is technically true but disingenuous. There was a defined period of time to vote and Jenny got more votes in that window.

So Rojo is both a liar and a cheater. Understood
Jenny Simpson beating Joan Benoit just shows you what a defeatist mentality today’s American runners possess . A runner who could beat most , but not all the runners in the Olympics is considered the greatest runner ever. In the 60s, 70s and early 80s USA runners were top dogs and WENT FOR THE GOLD . That’s not the goal anymore. Just sad.
What does it matter?
Benoit topped everyone in the blood doping era - toying with known dopers. Doper.
The other is a patient of Dr. Brown, a banned doctor.
If we are considering clean athletes only, neither one of them qualify. Just hope we end up with a clean athlete winning the bracket.
Mary Decker was the greatest. The Babe Ruth of American distance running.

Did you forget about Kathrine Switzer?
Jenny deserves the win , Jenny was dominanting during her peak years . Tim Tebow should be in the NFL as well.
Only Rojo could turn a simple poll into a shitshow. Well done Rojo, well done. I assume you got more clicks through your devious plot. What a disingenuous cheater.

No way no how Joanie was doping . Her body didn’t look at all like she was doping . She was on top of her game from 1979- 1991 and other than the marathon she wasn’t a world leader in shorter events.
All this talk of JBS reminded me of this thread.
I especially like the first post and the story of training with JBS by Giles Norton about a dozen posts down.
Samuelson was pretty good, but most of her fame was because the olympics were in LA and she got a ton of TV exposure. That made her famous but not great. She may have beat Kristiansen there, but was not close to as good an overall runner.
Someonewhoknows wrote:
Benoit Samuelson is an icon based on what she did when she did it, but Jenny Simpson had the better career. Indisputable.
0/10.
Simpson's career is full of medal inflation. Events added that did not exist when Joanie was in her prime.
In the WCs the women's 10k was added in 1987 (Simpson has never competed in a 10k). The 5000 was added in 1995. The 3000 steeple was added in 2005.
The same deferred adding of events goes for the NCAAs and US T&F Championships.

Jenny has NEVER run in a 10k. Imagine that. It is an event she has not been able to do.

Joanie never did XC.

Wrong. NC State was ACC champs when she was on that team. Was ‘79-80 female college XC athlete of the year. 2x XC All-American.

Remind me, what year K V Switzer medaled at the Olympic Games, or was that Worlds?
This is off topic, but Rupp >>>>> Shorter
