I don't see any reason to rush to reopen things like restaurants, gyms, and tattoo studios. The whole point of shelter in place/stay home orders (whatever your state choose to call it) is to elongate the process and keep hospitals from being overwhelmed. That isn't done in a month or two, it is done in four to six.
Closing for a month and then reopening rapidly, even if the reopening is spread over another month, isn't sufficient. I expect restaurants to open for internal seating no earlier than July or August, gyms probably a little later, and things like concerts and public sporting events late fall or maybe 2021. I don't think there is an MLB season this year and I'm only about 25% on there being an NFL season to be honest.
The fact of the matter is there is no way to react 100% correctly, statistically speaking we will either over or under react. I think this virus is dangerous enough to err on the side of a slight overreaction. I am healthy and would likely survive just fine but the whole point of this isn't to protect me or the healthy runners that mostly frequent this board. The point is to protect my 90+ year old grandma, my 70+ year old parents, the cancer survivors I work with, and the many of strangers that I come in contact with that might not fare as well as me.
It is also not sufficient for only those high risk people to stay at home and let me and those like me get on with everything as though the virus doesn't exist. Me going to public places increases the chance all of those high risk people getting exposed. Please stop with this "just let the high risk self-quarantine" because that isn't a humane alternative to all of us staying away from large gatherings.
