The title of this thread is dangerously misleading. The mayor is cautioning against large gatherings of people, not individuals going outside. Brojos, please moderate this and help stop perpetuating alarmist fake news.

This is rich. Can't talk about Chicago without a white person that doesn't live here take a jab at gang violence without any critique of the system that brought us here. Carry on, nothing to see here.
Yes, racist trolls infest these boards. Also disinformation trolls. No doubt some of them are employees of troll farms. Some are just gullible.

It seems people in other areas are not heeding the warnings either. There won't be the same numbers but their hospitals will be overburdened. At least you had more warning. Our politicians, local, state, and federal failed us. It's not a Chinese or Italian problem anymore.
I was warned in the beginning of January by news reports like everyone else. There are a few companies by me that have employees that travel the world. I have been limiting my exposure to anyone since January 10th.
When have our politicians not failed us? It is easy to blame others but we are first and foremost responsible for our own safety. Yes it is our problem now. We need to stop the blame game and BS and just get through it.
Yeah, every man for himself. Buy up all the toilet paper, sanitizer, alcohol, vegetables, fresh produce and meat. the hell with the poor let them suffer. Let them wait hours for a doctor, too bad they didnt save enough, the hell with their children and parents. As long as my 401k is stable life is great.
It seems like some people doing this wrong is ruining it for everyone.
I've been taking my daughter to the high school track to run.
The gate was locked for a few days and we slipped in (as others did) but yesterday it was unlocked.
We're keeping away from others.
But there are a group of boys playing lacrosse close together and doing leaping chest bumps.
Things like that may cause blanket restrictions for anyone using the stadium area.
That's what this mayor is seeing.
So many groups gathering, that it's easier to say no one can go out than to selectively decide who is acting riskier.
Just got back from a run. You know who’s ruining it for everyone? Dumb Ppl walking their annoying dogs and clogging up trails. Get the frick out of my way. No your dog isn’t cute and has no place staring at me as you mill around 2 feet away generating aerosols and miasma. Stay home dog people. Let your dog $hit in your yard . Thnx

I see this kind of thing as an excuse by the politicians and police. They are too lazy or fragile to deal with worst offenders, so they just ban and threaten everyone. That would be terrible parenting and it's terrible civil service work.

Yep, just like shutting down golf courses...so frustrating!

You're 100% right. I don't even particularly like Chicago (or any big city for that matter), but I hate when people talk about gang violence and crime but won't acknowledge the factors that lead to it (poverty, racism, ). As a teacher in the city, you're doing God's work, my friend.

On the other hand, I've lived in Chicago my whole life. It is a terrible city. I am counting the days when I get to leave. People are a-holes and are petty as hell.

Brojos? They are loving covid-19! LRC has never had such a high number of clicks!
They allow scaremongers to spew their crap here. Their silence and inaction actually encourage the scaremongers.
And yet anything that benefits Pritzger—not shut down. He encouraged people to gather at heavily crowded voting facilities on election Tuesday a week ago, and he is keeping pot and liquor stores open because he wants to tax revenue. People can get corona and die from frequenting those places, but runners don’t help his bottom line so they’d better stay inside.

If the police start fining and arresting people for going outside to the lakefront, eventually there will be organized riots. This is one of the most violent cities in the country and especially during the summer months.
Maybe that is the plan. They want to find a justification for martial law.
We're headed right for another depression...
The “system that brought us here” and prediction of result was written by Daniel Patrick Moynihan in 1965. Ever here of it, Teach ?
Star, those lacrosse players are very ignorant, likely destined for elite colleges in the northeast. Take your daughter to Dunbar Park at 31st and Indiana. Although the high school is closed, the track remains. You both will be fine, Daley used to live just down the street.
JB and Lorrie will never shut down the liquor stores, Wirtz Family has monopoly on distribution.
Just run around with the envelope of your Crook County Property Tax bill payment. Tell the cops you are on your way to the post office. Also say that you know Alderman Burke and your nickname is The Tuna.
