What if things get delayed 2 years, surely no one would argue we should send people who ran a qualifying race 2 years ago?
The unfortunate part of all of this is that for the elite athletes in the field the trials takes away from what they could normally earn by racing a major marathon........
No easy decision here. We should probably just send Rupp, Ward, and Korir and call it good.
The nice thing is nobody that ran the Trials can really feel like they lost out on an appearance fee from a major marathon, as all of them ended up being cancelled this spring. At least they got to run a race rather than all of their training being for nothing.
I expect USATF to re-select the team. Perhaps they give Rupp and Aliphine a pass as they won this year's selection race. Still sorting out exactly how I feel about whether this year's qualifiers should be entitled to spots in 2021 or whether they should have to re-earn them.
