I sincerely hope that she and her husband make a full recovery. That said, being a "professional runner" is not an essential worker or protected class nor should it move her to the front of the line. The NBA guys? That's just big money privilege at work.
If it is COVID-19 and it hurts her lungs, then she still presumably has a college education to fall back on? She isn't making NBA level coin and would have to get a real job in a few years anyway as only the most elite US distance runners make any money doing this. Yes, losing the ability to race at the elite level sucks but, she can still live a full life, embark on a productive working career, start a family, etc.
This disease is already creating orphans (a single mother of six died in Washington state yesterday) and some of you are worried that someone might lose a middling sponsorship for competing in a fringe sport? Get some perspective!
