Well she just ran 23.49... Huge pb..
Question is on how much training. If little then still lots of potential...

Well she pretty much just knocked a second off. No idea about track and conditions which could also be worth more.
I agree that unlikely she makes the finals but ignoring current trajectory would also be dangerous

I’m rooting for her, only because the IAAF has essentially dared her by making the 400-mile off limits.
Whether she does the 200, steeple, 5000, etc. Something about seeing an underdog win is always great. Who’d have thought she’d ever be considered an underdog.
Wasn't the IAAF, they wanted the men to be out of all events.
It was the CAS that wouldn't ratify a ban for more events than they have.

We'll see what happens, but there has never been a world class 400/800 runner that would have also been world class at 200. Her having run 3:59 makes it even less likely. I checked some of great male middle distance runners and not a single one had a 200 PR listed.
Alberto Juantorena? I can't find any 200m times from him but he was the 400/800 olympic champ after slowing building up his endurance for the longer event.

Yeah, Juantorena was the only world class 400/800 guy and even he doesn't have a 200 PR listed. The world class 200/400 sprinters never run the 800.
Semenya already knocked off almost a second and has to knock off a lot more than that still. If you look at the 200s in 400s, Semenya cannot or could not get out as fast as the 400m runners, so that explosive start, from weight lifting, is needed before we see low 22, but I am sure we will see sub 23 shortly if there are competitions. 49.62 tells me that a sub 22 would eventually be possible.
I say that even though 49.62 is equivalent in IAAF points to around 22.1-22.2, because I don't think that 400m time was the absolute best that Semenya could do. In the 400m at Doha, last Fall, in that championship with 48 flat times being run, Semenya would have broken 49, I am sure.
Like I said you won’t find a single world class male middle distance runner with a sub 22 FAT time. Running start 200m in training is probably a second slower than FAT from blocks.
Now, can a club-level male middle distance runner run sub 22, which likely requires sub 11 100m speed do it. Not a chance!
Semenya may just get the qualifying standard but will get smoked by true sprinters at the games.

Hmm...
Salwa Eid Naser 400m : 48"14, 200m=> 22"51
has 200m is actually quite slow compared to her 400m speed...
Kratochvilova might be the closes match among more recent cases.
(NB I don't think that Semenya "sandbagged" in her best races when she knew she might be banned, e.g. in the two 1000m WR attempts)
One could probably find data from non-professional males who run roughly similar times as Semenya.
Or historical world class:
Peltzer 1920s 10.9 22.1 47.8 1:51.6 3:51.0
Harbig 1930s 10.6 21.5 46.0 1:46.6 4:01.0
Schmid 1980s 20.68 44.92 1:44.83
Historically, there is also Steve Haas. Competing for Occidental College, he ran the following times in 1963:
• 100y - 9.4
• 220y - 20.7 (world record was 20.4)
• 440y - 46.9
• 880y - 1:47.6 (ranked 6th in the world)

Sprinting is a totally different thing from middle distance running. You need to be born with sprinting talent, meaning everything that makes you fast, makes you suck at middle and long distance.
I would be willing be bet a huge sum of money that Allyson Felix is, and always has been, clean. She has broken 22 and 11.
No segue into Felix, huh? You're really that big of a fan? Maybe you can check out the 'high school season cancelled' thread and randomly bring her up.
Onto another topic: Semenya
He ain't getting anywhere near any Olympic 200 final!

Caster Semenya is a man.
He is chromosomally male since he has XY chromosomes.
He is anatomically male, since he has internal testicles.
He identifies as a man in every aspect of his life since childhood.
The only time this cheating coward identifies as a woman, is when he steps on a track.
There have been a million posts like this on LR, but we've moved on to whether she can be competitive in the 200.
This is all uncharted territory. Predictions related to previous PB's in other women's distances must go out the window when nads are injected into female events.

She is considered to be biologically a male and none, other than maybe the Occidental guy, have been world class at both 200 and 800. Semenya is also world class at 1500 which makes it even less likely. Even with the nads, she is still human, so I don't believe she can be competitive in the 200.
What? You're delusional. 800 meter is middle distance, David rudisha and nigel amos run 45 mid and 44 high respectively, they can easily break 22

Allyson Felix volunteered to be in the US anti doping program’s “project believe” where athletes volunteered to provide blood and urine samples weekly to be tested and stored.
She ran 22.11 in high school.
She’s extremely gifted and hard working. Her times are nowhere Flojos, despite being more talented and having the same coach.
I’d bet she’s clean, 100%.
Having the same coach is a huge red flag and Flo Jo could take any amount of steroids. As an example Russian athletes were recently all doping but they still cant get close to the times of East German women who were not tested at all
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
