I think that should say Jake was a year AHEAD of Mason.

If you read the Twitter thread, Lee Troop apologizes to Maria "for the F-bomb". So it was his coach, not Jake, who swore (the worst thing a person can do in the whole world).
I picked him for fifth, I mostly picked off seed time, so not that crazy of a pick
Not the shoes wrote:
Look at the women's race, 7 out of top 8 were NOT wearing Nike shoes. In men's race 3 or 4 out of the top 10 wer not wearing Nike, but a higher percentage than that in the whole race were wearing them. So Non-nike shoes did disproportionately better in both races than Nike shoes when compared to how many people were wearing them.
Few of the top women were wearing Nikes because the vast majority of the top women are sponsored by other brands. When you look at the top women vs. the top men, only Hasay and Kipyego even could wear Nike without getting a special exemption from their sponsor. The situation is different for the men. Among the top men there were fare more who were either sponsored by Nike or else unsponsored and therefore able to wear the Nike (not sure about whether the military runners are sponsored by Nike or simple unsponsored and therefore free to choose).
It's either dishonest or ignorant to pretend that the fact that many of the top women weren't wearing Nike is somehow a valid counter-example to Nike's dominance in the men's race when the reality is that the vast majority of the top women didn't even realistically have the option to wear Nike as they were sponsored by other brands.
Then on top of that when you consider the much, much greater spread and gaps between the PRs of the top 10, 15, 20 women (cherry pick however you like). The top however many men you want to look at have much more closely spaced PRs than the top women. So the odds of an unsponsored 20th-seed woman making top three is much, much, much lower than the odds of an unsponsored 20th-seed man making top three. If you look at the facts it is completely unreasonable to expect the shoes to have as much effect on the women's results as the men's even if the effect is real and quite substantial. Pointing out that the shoes didn't dominate the women's race like they did the men's does not in any way disprove the proposition that the shoes do make a substantial difference.
Very simple. Jake Riley has the championship mentality.

What’s his training like? Mileage?

Being a 28 flat guy he definitely has the talent to make the team. But the most impressive thing is he didn’t race for three years as he was dealing with injuries and a divorce. Easily could have walked away. Here’s our talk w him before race.
He may be perfectly suited for marathon. With Hanson’s brooks he was never healthy. He was the most talented guy to join their program and ran 2:13 in his debut.
Also got to wonder if he’s a super responder to the shoes.
The Stanford big 3 were dominate. He was a part of it

Lots of Olympic Trials participants in this video. This is video is behind a paywall on flotrack but free on youtube!
I picked Rupp for 4th and Riley for 5th, so at least I got the order right. I picked 5 of the top 10 over all, but only chose the correct place for Kipyego.
who the hek is fgndfkvns
He went to Stanford and I think their number 1 runner his last year in XC. He ran about a 4:02 mile in HS, He was in the second tier of candidates per Letsun.
Here's what I remember of Jake Riley. Led much of the race.

That was a lovely moment to see. I've loved this sport for 50 years and this video brought me back to some of my own achievements (not to imply they in any way compared to what Jake did, he is obviously extraordinary). I guess it's that feeling of utter belief that you gave absolute everything you had and were rewarded with a race you'll always look back on positively. I broke 9 minutes for 3000m when I was 15 and I still think about it and remember that utter wash of pride in knowing how hard I'd worked and even if I wasn't the fastest guy, I'd done my best and reached a goal that had seemed unbelievable even 2 years earlier (when I'd run 9:43). I felt like freaking Roger Bannister must have felt and I bet many, many of you know exactly what I mean.
I'll remember this race for a while. As I understand, with Jake being unattached I wonder if he might be reading this thread and if so - sweet running, Jake, you are an inspiration and what the f**k - go for the gold, what have you to lose?

At Mile 25 he was still 57.29 seconds behind Rupp. Riley finished 42 seconds behind Rupp, meaning he gained 15 seconds on the winner in the final 1800 meters. You don’t have a performance like that just based on inspiration. What a smart race Riley ran!
Not that he didn’t run a smart and terrific race. But Rupp had the win well in hand by 25 miles and could afford to let up. Riley on the other hand was giving it literally everything he had to preserve his spot on the team. So you can’t compare closing splits like that.

Because the hills negated the bump in performance that you get from the Nike shoes! That's why!
