For somone so young and seemingly healthy to die, it's reasonable to wonder if it relates to complications from PEDs. If it was EPO, it doesn't fit the usual profile. Most EPO deaths are sudden events, heart attack or stroke. Immune system issues are possible, but seems uncommon. Seems he has been unwell for "several months"'. "Abadi Hadis ...suffered a complicated disease and had been in poor condition for several months. He was admitted to the Ayder Referral hospital of the University of Mekele..."

Apparently a "complicated illness." I'm sure this will raise speculation that it was PED related.
I was thinking EPO related. By now we know it thickens the blood, leads to an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, cerebral or pulmonary embolism. May may also lead to autoimmune diseases with serious health consequences. It is a possibility he was on it? I mean, his age fits.

Highly unlikely. All the EPO deaths that I've heard of have been simple. They die suddenly in their sleep. This says complicated, sick for months.
What if his autoimmune system began to fail months ago as a consequence of its use?
What if he never used EPO and he just died from some random illness?
No, that's impossible. Anyone faster than the message board posters has to be a doper.
Usually, when someone is hospitalized for some time, at least hospitals find out the cause of death.
When you see "unspecified cause of death" or unknown illness, usually the family decides to keep it secret.
This can happen in other people, for drug abuse, suicide attempt etc. For elite athletes however... the suspicions are PED. Nobody can really know, but the clouds are there. It is a really solid scenario.
I’d be surprised if it was PEDs. Like other posters have mentioned, PED deaths are almost always sudden and unexpected (think of your blood over-coagulating at night from EPO). This seems like it was an acute medical condition, such as cancer, given its complex nature. Not to say he didn’t dope but his death doesn’t sound suspicious.
RIP
It's hard to believe a man who could run like this at RAK 2019 is now gone...

It's so sad that the sport has lost someone so young.
Also sad that people just automatically assume it's from performance enchantment drugs!!!

Ya gotta admit that 58:xx for HM is pretty enchanting!

They actually are 'dealing with it', why do you think they believe you are stupid.
That's the opinion, deal with it

Oh no!
I have just seen this.
Terrible news. Very sad!
May the Lord bless his soul and may he give his family the strength to deal with this terrible loss.
These cases leave lots of question marks, for years...

If your first thought when a world class endurance athlete dies at 22 isn’t peds or a bad blood bag you haven’t been following the sport very long,.
Editors - we will now delete any post that states runners use of PEDs as a fact until proven guilty.

He just died. This shouldn't be the comment unless you have some really good proof. This is shameful and super poor taste.
Editor's note: We 100% agree. If you want to wonder if he somehow died from something related to illegal drug use, you can post that as a question. All posts saying it as fact will be deleted.
What is this? Are we playing "Jeopardy"? These kinds of vile suggestions are reflexively posted by some of the most ignorant, useless people on this message board every time something like this happens, and telling them to pose their suggestions in the form of a question isn't likely to diminish the toxic and dispiriting effect that these people have on this site, and they still add nothing of value.
People die. In some countries, a lot of them die at an early age, and from diseases that people in other countries can remain happily ignorant about. If serious, knowledgeable people have useful information about this case, I'm perfectly fine with reading it in straightforward declarative sentences.

About the same age as Bekele's fiance when she died.
It's all good, one more young and innocent East African chewed up in the Italian meat grinder. Easily replaced. I'm sure his doctor is already injecting some of the sauce marked for him into a 14 year old kid pegged as the next Bekele. Don't fret guys, the circus will go on for our entertainment.
Cycling introduced the 50% rule not to curb the entertainment but to curb the body count.

58 is off the charts, it is sprinting.

Almost exactly the same age and times as the Ethiopian who was busted last year. (Brehanu Tsegu). They even finished 6th and 7th at the Ethiopian trials. I wonder if they were training partners? Maybe their coach was making them go full throttle.
Tsegu was, in fact, provisionally suspended last October for an EPO positive (case still pending). Good question - I wonder if they were training partners under the same coach?

Really, how many athletes that age are dropping dead in the West?
What we should really be discussing is the part that doping apologists on this board are playing in the continuing death toll coming out of East Africa just so you guys can wax lyrical about the latest undernourished, overdoped native who can run ridiculous times and prove to you that they are somehow are not a regular part of the human race (whatever psychological comfort that weird thought gives you).
If it was white teenage girl fashion models dropping dead at 20 of 'complex illnesses', no doubt there would be a global moral panic with demands for the industry to be banned or massively regulated.
But because it's East African runners, just play the 'race card' and shout (and threaten) anyone who raises the issue of doping, and the sick show will go on.
He was under the same dubious Spanish company - Pineda Sports - that controls Genzebe Dibaba and many other Ethiopian and Kenyan athletes.
I wonder what percentage of these guys are clean? Any guesses?
