My top 10 and my reasoning:
Rupp (nothing recent, but he's training now and his success speaks for itself)
Korir (2:07 this fall a month after world championships 10,000 meters)
Ward (was top 3 last time, just beat a great field of Americans at Houston with a PR)
Jerrell Mock (great showing at Chicago in first ever marathon 2:10)
Reed Fischer (no marathon, but surprising 61:30's after a return from injury, will get better)
Jacob Riley (top American at Chicago, 2:10:36)
Scott Fauble (was looking like a top 3 contender, rough fall of racing, but will still be in mix)
Parker Stinson (consistently good in half marathon range, ran a solid Chicago 2:10:53)
Abdi Abdiraham (Tons of marathon experience, ran best race in a few years at NYC marathon)
Matt McDonald (race is right where he trains in Atlanta, just ran good half, ran 2:11:10 at Chicago)
No way 150mpw doesn't get some serious respect in Atlanta. Walmsley will surprise and be in top 8, maybe top 5.

Walmsley
The winning time will be a high-2:06. 80 or so will finish, with 2:13 brining up the rear.
Don't sleep on Sam Chalenga!! This guy is the real deal. He will show up all the haters. His performance at Huston Half shocked everyone but the true believers!
Very good list. What about Connor McMillan(2:12 solo on NY), CJ Albertson(Best shape ever) and the evergreen Bernard Lagat?
I suspect that Walmsley fans simply don’t know enough to make realistic predictions. Can you even name any other American marathon runners? Who’s your top 10 other than JW?
1. Korir - Great debut of 2:07 right after Worlds, genetically more gifted
2. Rupp - the Great White Hope, but he probably only medaled in 2016 because of shoes
3. Ward - guy seems to have a knack at being able to beat the rest of the Americans
4. Fauble - beat Ward in Boston but has not been great since. If both men are 100%, I'd lean Fauble. I dont think Scott is 100% though.
I think this is a 4 man race, gap to big between Fauble and the rest
“More generically gifted”
Galen ran 26:40
Many moons and a healthy achilles ago. Korir has a sub 60 half and a faster debut marathon (14 days after running the 10k in Dubai at World Champs) than Rupp
1) Hall
2) Hasay
3) Sisson
4) Huddle
5) Taylor
6) Cragg
7) Bates
8) Tuliamuk
9) Bruce
10) Thweatt

Its a very deep field. Besides Korir and Rupp, people better show up in shape, like 207 at CIM shape in order to get top 3. It'll be slower than that because of the hills but anything but the race of one's life isn't going to cut it.
Very interesting race for sure. The course is quite hilly and the weather won't be ideal surely. The winning time will be around 2:10-2:11.
Rupp can make the team if he's in reasonable shape, same goes with Korir. The battle will be for the 3rd spot. I'll go with Jared Ward.
In my eyes Reed Fischer is the most improved runner in the field, despite a setback and not very high mileage. If he stays healthy, he is my pick to win the trials in 2024. He definitely has a 2:07-2:08 in him one day.
Also interesting what Mock will do to follow up his Chicago breakthrough, same for McMillan.
I would swap one with 2, three with 4 (the important one in a ‘top three take it all’ event), and 5 with six.

Putting Hasay over Hall? That's bold.
Does it really matter, one or two? 3v4 is the matchup with everything to lose.
I think Nate Martin will be in the top 10. 2nd at the 20k championships this past fall.

No winning the race or coming in second doesn't matter. ?

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
