Who is currently coaching Molly? Has she left Tim Broe yet?
Assuming she finishes around where her 10k/half marathon fitness level indicates she'll probably be in that 10-20th place range. I wouldn't call her a legitimate dark horse because she's never run a marathon and her half isn't elite enough (like a 67/68) to have crazy expectations for the full like a 2:24.
She made a post on instagram today about some podcast she is on. I haven't had a chance to take a listen to it yet but in her caption she wrote:
"A few weeks ago I sat down with my close friend Julia Hanlon (@runningonom ) to be a part of the Running on Om podcast
.
There’s some serious real talk in here. I use the phrase “mindf**k” a few too many times. There’s also some terrible singing. However, I got to talk deeply in a way I never have about my (often difficult) path in running
.
This is the first time I’ve talked publicly about my mental health struggles and eating disorder treatment. I talk about my mind space during college when I was winning championships but not physically or mentally well. And about how as a pro @saucony has supported me as a runner & human being, as well as my recent move to a new coach. We also chat a bit about the upcoming marathon trials
.
Link is up in bio, if you want to hear me and Jules vibing please give it a listen. TbH it’s pretty scary putting this out here, but I’m hoping my own story can help in a small way. Thanks enormously to everyone who made this happen"

She ran a 70 half in December.
I knew when I saw her recent success that she must of left Tim Broe.

So you're saying to be a legitimate dark horse you have to... be a favourite?
Cause anyone who has run a 67/68 is a favorite contender, not a darkhorse
She's clearly an aerobic runner that gets better as the races get longer. Without using a calculator, I'd say her 5k/10k times are about a 2:26 equivalent. Given the trials isn't paced, that could put her in with a shot

Anyone with this opinion has never actually met Tim and has only heard the crazy (and funny) stories, none of which have anything to do with his success as a coach.
She is good and he is good.
On today's Letsrun podcast, Des Linden gave Molly a shout-out and said she could surprise people.

I think you left English.

In that Running On Om podcast she says she left freedom tc and Coach Broe and is now coached by a friend, called John Green, and also advised by her college coach, Coach Sparks.
Awesome news, by golly!
I was impressed with Molly’s willingness to be so vulnerable on this podcast. In the podcast she admits the following
1) she did indeed have an eating disorder & ocd complex at the peak of her NCAA career (there was speculation on the boards about this & now we know it to be true). She was actually hospitalized for it & that’s why she stayed a fifth yr at ND instead of going pro
2) she almost went to STANFORD & now she’s glad she didn’t bc the high pressure environment at STANFORD would’ve likely ruined her running career
3) had she gone pro during her senior year she would be making a lot more money. Waiting a fifth year & then getting injured on top it blew her chances w/ most sponsors. She actually works 30hrs a week
4) she is hyper aware of the fact that her success vs her appearance during her senior year of college sends mixed messages to young girls. She also understands that the damage she did to her body during that time is why she’s now so injury prone
There’s way more! It’s worth a listen, especially if you’re in high school
Her half marathon PR is 1:10:27. I think it'll be a good experience for her, but the women's marathon is way too deep right now. Let's talk in 2024 after she's run a few marathons.

It's always safe to bet on the field, but she's in a group of people who have a legit shot. Especially in the trials, which may be run as a half marathon after a warmup.

And so it did.
Having met Seidel briefly, I’ll just say she is a pleasant person and I’m glad she did well today. Glad to see these Preceding letsrun posts of negativity proven as accurate as usual.
