Crouching Tiger: so boring I forgot I saw it!
Took my brother in law (he was 13 at the time) to see Avengers Infinity War. I'd seen the Iron Man movies (fine) and Captain America (quite meh), and Thor Ragnorak (enjoyable). I'm not a huge super hero guy but can enjoy myself even if I'm never entranced by them.
I found myself laughing out loud in the cinema. Some of the dialogue was so stunningly bad, so many forced bone headed decisions, random CGI fight scenes unnecessary even by super hero standards, and so many massively contrived moments to drag the plot forward whether it made sense or not.
Crazy Rich Asians. A "comedy" made by people with absolutely no sense of humor. Instead try The Farewell - you can see the ending coming but still don't believe they will do it.

Lost In Translation, waste o money.
One of the best movies I've seen.
Took more than 1 watch, but yeah, this was a good flick. Captured loneliness perfectly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpwIbqm-umkThe English Patient was the worst.
I left early.
The Crying Game was beyond terrible.
I also left early.
Loved Crying Game!
Groundhog day. I walked out, over and over
I don't think I've ever actually "walked out" on anything but the closest I ever came was "The Hurt Locker". I couldn't believe how much I hated it. Still not totally sure why. Also why everyone else seemed to think it was so good.
I just looked up a top movies list though and of what I've seen on it, I really genuinely enjoyed.
No country for old men
Maybe everything listed is someone's favorite (doubtful). And I'm sure reservoir dogs and pulp fiction are not everyone's cup of tea, but Pan's labyrinth and no country for old men - those are two of my all-time favorite movies. They have most of what I'm seeking - drama, tension, tight dialogue, loathsome villains, imperfect endings. Okay, not much in the laughs department, but what do you look for that you don't find here?
Bogalusa Charm

Leaving Las Vegas.
Saw it over 20 years ago and it still stands out as one of the worst films I’ve ever watched.
Walked out of Fight Club. Not my idea of a good time.
I walked out of one of the Stars Wars movies about 15 years ago, not sure which one but does it really matter? They all stink.
I don’t remember walking out of a movie, however, among movies with great fan or critic reviews, I’ve never stayed awake all the way through Bladerunner or Apocalypse Now. And I WISH I had walked out of Mother.

Arrival
This for sure. It was the slowest Sci Fi movie ever. The plot was total garbage. If I had been alone I would have walked out, instead just napped through part of the second half. Everyone I was with hated it and we couldn't believe the overwhelmingly positive reviews.
Its understandable if you didn’t like Arrival. It is slow, a little weird, and anticlimatic for a conventional sci fi movie.
That said Arrival is based on a 50ish page novella. The story and movie are only science fiction in the loosest sense of the genre. It’s not a good vs bad or even an explore the cosmos film. The main character’s drive to understand the aliens’ language and time concepts are just a device to get at the difficulty of accepting unavoidable loss.
All to say, there are legitimate reasons some people appreciate the film. I don’t consider it an art house pick, just something different.

Three of mine:
Original Star Wars - Another science fiction piece with dialogue and music used as filler for action and graphics.
The Lighthouse - Absolute nightmare of a movie that has incredible pretensions to being artful, deep and meaningful. Most can't see through the crafted veneers so they are intimidated (like how some feel like in art galleries where even the worst rubbish has hidden meanings) and pay homage to it.
Titanic - So many vapid superficial stereotypes, no wonder why the communist Chinese loved it.
I'm curious - did you watch the Original Star Wars in the theater in 1977 when it first came out? There really had not been anything like it before and it seemed really fresh and original at the time. The only scifi movies I can remember seeing in a theater before that were 2001 and Planet of the Apes. But neither were like Star Wars.
A movie that comes to mind as being hard to sit through was that other movie from 1977 that received all of the critical acclaim and awards: Annie Hall.
And I completely agree with you about Titanic.
I walked out of La La Land after having fallen asleep for the middle part of it. Boring, bad music, bad plot, felt like it dragged on and on. Still kind of triggered when I hear the music from it haha
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
