Track or roads?

Roads, but coincidentally ties his 10,000m track PR set last year. Hope to see him lower the track version further this year.

Another man faster on the Valencian road than on the track.

Why is Wanders face so puffy? Does he run a lot of mileage? When I ran high mileage, my face tended to cave in.

He appears to be on an improvement trajectory (substantial improvement last summer compared to the summer before). My guess is he's simply fitter now, and has the capacity to go faster than 27:17 on the track too. But he's also got a 'track record' of running exceptionally well on the roads (low 59 half marathon last year etc) which is not limited to Valencia.

If he can do it why can't any American born elite male runner do it? He is a role model for U.S. runners on how to run at that level. He simply out trains them.

he said going at 2:45min/km felt well in valencia, it looks promising.

also i'm really really looking forward to see him running his first marathon, i believe he might do very well.

sadly this year (after the ras half) he will focus on tokyo. meh... there's nothing to do for him there.

I hope he focuses on the half for at least a couple of more years. At least until he maybe reaches down to 58:30. That would be crazy.

I like the half a lot more than the full marathon. Perfect distance for a real distance race.

American born elite male runners don't train to run fast 10ks on the roads in January. American men focus on the track up to 10,000 and then the marathon. Ben True beat Wanders in the 5,000m in the heats Doha and in the Diamond League final. Ben True was injured and had recently lost to Woody Kincaid, Drew Hunter, and Riley Masters at USAs. I don't think Wanders is on a different level than American born men like those guys and is obviously a level below Rupp.

Sort of have to be 26:40 shape or better these days to run in the big leagues it seems. Wanders is fast, but has a way to go. Maybe better in the half, if he can run 58:30 or better. He is young and might continue to improve over the next 6-8 years.

That’s what happens when you live and train like the East Africans. Dude is clearly all in. Americans take note.
