You people are making a big deal out of nothing. Rupp picked Mike Smith to work with him as his new coach for now. Whats the big deal? He is an amazing coach and I'm sure will help Rupp succeed.

On the one hand, I'm surprised by this simply because NAU is an adidas school, they don't have a Nike contract. But it's not like NAU is a basketball or football power.
That being said, on the other hand, I guess I should be surprised as we had heard that when the Oregon xc job came open, Salazar lobbied hard to get Smith to take over as their replacement.
I guess I'm more surprised by the fact that I'm not sure if Mike Smith has ever coached or run a marathon in his life. Anyone know? Correction. What was I tthinking? He was an OT marathon qualifier.
Good God man! How many f&cking times can you use the word surprise in a short post?
Also, you are surprised by the fact that you're not sure?????
OMG you have set back grammar 40 decades.

How come when a coach imports a bunch of Kenyans - like Alabama - no one calls the coach the GOAT? But when a dude imports a bunch of white foreigners, they are viewed as some sort of guru?
# of foreign born runner in Smith's top 5 aach year:
In 2019: 3
IN 2018:3
In 2017: 3
Get back to me when he can do it with Americans like Wetmore and have success on both the men's and women's side.
The only foreigners you can get away with importing are Cubans.
Kramer
Big mistake. Bandwagon decision when there are several other coaches out there. Ritz? Magness? Radcliffe? Shalane? Hall? Even Eric Heins, the true tablesetter for NAU. The last gasps of a dying man. Long live Rupp.

Because the white foreigners blend in and ultimately the bias most fans of this niche sport easily comes to the surface.
My teachers’s name is Mike Smith

Sorry. Mike Smith is window dressing.
Too bad for an up and coming coach ( he continued Eric's legacy for a couple years only.... never coached a professional or Olympian)
It is so apparent Smith is the Beard and Salazar is still Salazar.
Wise up Mikey!
Hopefully Al Sal steps back and distances himself from Rupp and Smith so he doesn’t get Rupp into any trouble during an Olympic Year.
BUT
I have also seen former coaches and parents who can’t let go and interfere/second guess/create doubt about the new training programme.

Guess you aren't good at counting. That being said. 2 of the 3 thi syear did go to HS in the US.
This year.
Nur, Abdihamid - Somalia
Beamish - New Zealand.
Grijalva - Guatemala
2018:
Baxter- NZ,
Grijalva - GGuatemala
Lomong -South Sudan.
Lomong, Nur and Grijalva have lived in the United States for years. I'm unaware on their current citizenship, but wouldn't call them international recruits.

You used it twice in an even smaller set of words.
Irony wins again.
PS- Your use of punctuation is pathetic.

Those Runners World articles are just fluff pieces. They don’t give us much information at all.
Brojos - interview Smith. Do it on the podcast. Ask the hard questions. Ask about training details, dig in for specifics.

I think they reached out for coaching details about a week before this news came out and got nothing. I don't know how that'll go.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
