He has been training alternatively since Dec 8th, and will drop the 2020 indoor season entirely.
Filip will be the only Ingebrigtsen doing indoor races, with Düsseldorf (1500, Feb 4th) and the NYRR Millrose Games (Feb 8th) confirmed for now.

He is just butthurt.

Technically correct, although that condition is missing from the medical nomenclature.
Seems like over Racing to me. Worlds was not till October which made a really long track season. Along with XC racing and I recall a road 10k soon after.
He should of taken some downtime from Intensity after worlds and not raced till after the new year. Especially in an Olympic Year.
Hopefully he recovers quickly and they learn from this.
Oh and the 1:59 pacing Kipchoge thing too. That had to be a weird workout especially for someone young.
Beginning of the end for the Norwegian Miracle?
Or at least the end of the Norwegian Oracle (his dad).
End of the Norwegian Clavicle (injury you get when Jakob grabs you above the shoulder during a race).

Two of the best comments I've read this year on this board.

Disagree.
How many pacing intervals did he do for 1:59?
A few short efforts at marathon pace should not be a problem for a fairly high-mileage runner who regularly races up to the 10k distance.
Link ?
It was really stupid to race at that time of year fairly close to the track WC and with an Olympic year approaching. Bold decisions like that make me think that he and his bros are on EPO etc. Delusions of invincibility are side effects of PED usage and his tactics in the WC 5000m are concurrent with such behavioural patterns.
It's pretty difficult to strain the gluteus maximus. It's a big/strong muscle. The article says "buttocks", but the translation may be off.
What's much more common when you have pain in the glute max area is referred pain from the spine. Hope he gets good/correct treatment and comes back strong.

For a 13:00 man

Kipchoge was running at thon pace. They were running closer to Half pace threshold pace. I’m not saying they were really hard for him but it was still workout intensity at time when recovery was needed. Also it was an out of the norm workout which may have been I’m a stressor in itself.

Well we know that since the IAAF list of likely dopers came out.
Five sub 3:32, eight sub 3:38, three sub 3:44, two sub 3:54 miles, two sub 7:56, two sub 13:03 and one 13:25, 10k 27:54, and the European Crosschampionchip . And the 1:59 pacing, air flights , television stress and and and.
I'm worrying that they are burning him out. Why he didn`t run just one discipline in Doha? He is just 19! Maybe he would have been medalled there. Wrong decision from Gjert.
Darn. Was hoping Jakob would run something like 3:27/12:45 this year.
Wonder if his brother Filip has some PRs in him. Pretty sure he could go under 3:30.
Why shouldn´t he be able to do that. He is doing alternative training and is not out forever. They don´t think it will influence his preparations for the olympics.
I am increasingly skeptical of Google translate:
"The sore butt and overall heavy load in 2019 causes Jakob Ingebrigtsen to change plans not to gamble with the Olympic form. He postpones departure to altitude gathering and drops the entire indoor season."
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
