I wonder if the slightly infamous Finnish tabloid story of 83, that sometimes gets dragged up here, claiming that Coe had been pulled from Helsinki due to a failed doping test in Britain, was the result of annoyance at the widespread belief that the success of the Finnish greats had been due to blood doping?
Coe actually was one of the main figures in getting blood doping finally banned (in 85 or 86 I think). So I wonder if he had already been working towards that in 83?
