Bryce Knight, formerly of Idaho State (i think it was Idaho state?), ran pretty fastly
Whatever happened to him? Last I saw, he was a rabbit for the Reebok indoor games a few years ago. Is he still running?
you all are idiots, webb is from va and that makes him the fastest in that state
Remember it is the fastest "Native Born Runner." If you want to talk about the "fastest who ran in high school in your state" than you should start another thread.

I really have no idea when this list was updated but it's a pretty good idea of NYers ....native born well thats hard to pin down.Say someone was born in Jerzey and moved to NY when he was 6 mos old,no record for him?
I actually take pride in the fact that both Carlos and James kicked by butt during HS.
NYS also had a pretty good LJer about that time ........seems he had a good jump in Mexico.

“WORLD RECORD!!”
wineturtle admits that all these records are better than his PBs.
Curious to know the population of NY state in comparison to my state -Victoria AUS (ours is about 5 million)as we compare quite well in the runners we have produced in the middle and long distances.
I would like to see Matlock and Barnaby Jones square off in a 400m duel. Jim Rockford could race the winner for the title of fastest PI.
actually, I am pretty sure that Jerald went to a little school called Snake River, 4 miles away from Blackfoot. The fastest miler from Blackfoot is Thomas and he only mustered a 4:20. Although, they had an 800 runner Brick Bergesen(sp?), I don't think he is related to your Rick, who ran for ricks and did the 1500 in 3:5?.

3:59.79 Rick Bergesen, Borah HS
3:38.5 Tom Von Ruden, Notus HS, 1962
3:40.1 Jerald Jones, Blackfoot HS, 1971
So you are saying that Jerald broke four in HS? I don't think so. We're talking career best for people who are native born from the state. So although thomas "only mustered" a 4:20 in HS, I'm sure he went on to run faster and bergesen went on to run faster as well:

COMPLETE RESULTS - FINALS
...Lunn would come back to rabbit the final heat of the 1500 which was won by Villanova's Adrian Blincoe, runner up in the NCAA indoor 3000, in 3:42.91. Brick Bergeson of Utah State was 2nd in 3:43.01, and Stanford freshman Don Sage followed up his 14:04 in Friday's 5000 with a 3:43.93 for 4th. 40-year-old Johnny Gray, 1992 bronze medalist in the 800, finished 16th in his heat in 3:53.74.

Ivory is actually from Brentwood, MO not Webster Groves. He moved to Webster sometime after his freshman year at Brentwood High. Best athlete ever from a town of 8000, and his original high school track was only 330 meters around(still is too).
My bad!
I was talking to him last year at the race Craig Virgin put on for him and he talked like he was born, raised, and buried in W.G.

As someone said, have to scratch at least one Downin from that list. Guy Stearns and Mike Gagne should be on there. Cathy (Schiro) O'Brien (two Olympics) and Erica Palmer (NCAA cross-country champ) belong, and Sean O'Brien and Russell Brown soon will too if they don't already.
Still haven't seen a US state that has as impressive a list as Victoria.
Of course we have had a few good coaches -Pat Clohessy, Percy Cerruty, Franz Sampfl, Chris Wardlaw, Alan Barlow, Nic Bideau, Peter Fortune, Bruce Scriven, Henri Schubert etc.
Wow, that brings me back. 1982 was an awsome year for the distance guys.
