This is remarkably accurate for me. I added 10 lbs of muscle in my upper body and all my times 5K and above went up ~30 sec./mile. My mile stayed the same and 800 improved 5 sec and 400 3 sec..
Ryan runs sub 2:20 first try. Regardless of weight. He is Ryan Hall. You can’t lose talent like he has.

You know he wants to run in those shoes.
Hahahahja that thought never cross my mind until after i read your post. I'm sure he is actually wondering how much faster he would have been with those.
I really hope Ryan Hall can OTQ. I would be unbelievably happy for him.

That is NOT going to happen.
No way. wrote:

I am honored to be sharing our unwavering faith in Mr. Hall with you. :)

WADA begs to differ:
https://www.usada.org/wp-content/uploads/TUE_guidance_androgen_deficiency_male_hypogonadism-testosterone.pdfOops! Make that "USADA begs to differ"
USADA is being pretty friendly towards Ryan, since it's pretty obvious that he's taking testosterone and I'd bet that he's also a USATF member, which means he can get tested at any time. Sure, it wouldn't advance anti-doping in any way, but USADA very often goes after the low-hanging fruti.
Most former elites gain 30-50 pounds and its fat. Ryan is ahead of the game because he has maintained a disciplined lifestyle with nutrition and training. It’s just been focused on gaining muscle and not aerobic capacity.
So for him it is a much easier transition to simply increase the aerobic and decrease the anaerobic (weights). He can be back to sub 2:10 shape within 6 months if he so chooses.

The biggest thing I came out of it thinking is "Damn, it must be so rough being a 'normal' person. Here I am still within healthy BMI, jogging 3x - 4x a week with a decent engine, and I feel more tired than I like to. I can't imagine how difficult things would seem being the 'average dude' at 195lbs and rather sedentary."
Oh, it sucks. I was that guy. And I know guys like they now--they sleep all day and night. Sleep ten hours every night, take a nap at 1pm until 5pm on Saturday. Or take a nap when they get home at night.
Just curious.. how tall are you?
Not tall. 5'9"
If Ryan won the 2020 trials it would be the greatest comeback ever!

Hall ran 1:50/3:40 as a college freshman.
Think generic college freshman, not one of the best runners in the world. He could probably still drop a 3:50 1500 right now if he needed to, surely under 4:00.
I’m going to go out on a (very short) limb and say no, he could not. At the end of his career at his marathon I wouldn’t have been surprised if a 3:50 was tall order. He was running in the 3:43-3:46 range in around ‘05.
He’s way heavier than he used to be and that makes a huge difference. I only have my own experience to compare it to but I went from a 3:44 1500m to barely breaking 20:00 for 5km after two years and putting on 30lbs from lifting. I was still running a bit as well.
It’s insane the amount of difference weight (and not training seriously for a couple years) makes.
The Article says he wants to pace his wife to a 67 Minute Half Marathon, The Record is 67:25 by Huddle (though K. Goucher ran 66:57 in a slightly downhill course) So maybe he wants to help his wife run an American Record, Which would make them both American Record Holders in the Half which is a big achievement, and far more realistic than him getting back to his best.

Somebody should tell that to Marry Cain.
update pls, is Ryan back? I think it would be awesome if he were to qualify. If you've ever seen him run, he looks so smooth!!

No. He's not back. He's much heavier than he used to be. Probably just for fun/health.
Should this poster be banned for possibly creating an eating disorder with Hall? Fat/muscle-shaming.
Moderating isn't easy. This shows you why.

That would be rad!
I want Abdi, Meb, Lagat, Hall, Fam toeing the line at the trials.
don't be an alexandre dumas and read the backstory. his goal is to be able to pace his wife.
there is absolutely not enough time, nor any inclination to get into shape for any OTQ attempt.
dude wants his wife to make the team, and wants to be running with her wheile she is training rather than riding his MTB.
if he does that for a while and the fire is roaring, who knows, maybe a WMM or some other return, but that would be well down the road and is highly unlikely IMO.
i think all along he had the idea in the back of his head of raising his T by getting muscular. i just don't think there is any chance he ever runs another competitive race.
