OP, consider D3. Sounds like you have the grades and test scores for consideration. A top notch D3 school will have plenty of financial aid. Your times won’t help admission but D3 may provide a better experience. I had a chance to walk on to an in state middle tier P5 program with better times but chose D3 for a wholistic collegiate experience. Let’s say you drop four seconds and run 2:00 this year. That gets you DFL in a middle heat of a small but decent D3 meet. (I ran in the Midwest so the D3 competition was pretty fierce.). But 2:00 would make you one of the fastest women in D1.
Pick a school based on the academic/financial fit and then consider the program/coach. Do their athletes regress, flatline, or progress?
Don’t be the dumba$$ on IG who has, “D1 athlete” in their bio.
