Hey guys, I am a senior and I am wanting to run track and field (and maybe cross country) in college.
For a little bit of background, (all PR's other than 800 rounded to nearest 5 second mark for privacy)
I have run 2:04/800M 4:40/1600M 10:50/3200M and 17:15/XC
D1 Team Wants:
1:57-4:30-9:30-15:15ish depending on track accolades
They tell me I need to at least hit one standard for a walk on spot but if I hit two of them I am much much much more likely to be successful.
My only valid options at this point are looking like the 800/1600 combo due to the falloff in times at distance.
Their slowest MD guy runs 1:58/800 4:15/1500 and their fastest runs 1:49/800 and 3:43/1500
I have about 1/2 tuition for academics at this school but no athletic scholarship offer for obvious reasons haha.
D2 Team Wants:
2:14-5:00-11:15-18:00
Their slowest MD guy runs 2:16/800-5:00/1500 and their fastest runs 1:58/800-4:10/1500
I would also most likely start out as a scoring runner on the XC team.
At this school I would go 1/2 ride on academic and 1/4 on athletic +FAFSA this college is looking really cheap.
What should I do? Should I commit to the meh D2 college or try and work my butt off for a walk on spot at a pretty good D1 school?
