Our daughter is a D1 runner who has now had three stress reaction diagnoses in past two years. Femur stress reaction. Never injured in high school. Mileage has not increased significantly. No female triad syndrome. Normal bone density. I believe there is some mechanical gate defect/orthopedic imbalance that is contributing to this recurring condition in same location. I'm looking for recommendations for a medical/Ph. D. professional with significant experience and expertise in assessing physiological and mechanical contributions to stress reactions/fractures.
Orthopods seem to be content to review image scans and radiology reports and make diagnostic calls like stress reaction or stress fracture. They appear far more reticent to opine about underlying causation and prevention. Is anyone aware of a group or individual with the education, training, equipment and experience to (I) render informed opinions about ultimate cause of stress reactions/fractures and (ii) help design an exercise program specially targeted to preventing or reducing likelihood of a recurrence?
It breaks my heart to see how low this has brought her.
