OP like many things on LR, your question got hijacked. I just did a scan on 60-69 yo males running Boston over a 17 year period and found a number of different finishers under 3. It breaks my heart as my performances have slipped since turning 60 along w/increased injuries. A poster mentioned some folks are just gifted and I suspect the majority of those people just have that combination of genetics, time to train, and solid coaching to be exceptional. Sadly, I never rule out use of PEDs, but am inclined to think it's less likely at this stage of life. That doesn't mean it's not possible.
That’s something like 90 percent age graded. American record is 2:41 or 2:42 and world record is another 5 minutes faster. Not many are running faster than that in the US, maybe a handful a year. I’ve been running the masters circuit for the past couple of years and have met most of the runners and I agree.that while possible PED use is probably not common in the senior division. So I’m sticking up for my peers, myself included.
