What is a realistic goal for racing New York? I've only raced one marathon before and was completely out of shape. Here, I've trained since June running about 75-80 miles per week. During the cycle:
I've run a half in 1:13:30.
1 week ago 21 miles with 16@ 5:57 pace (flat) (6:05 average for the whole thing)
5 Mile repeats at 4:55 with 3 min rest.
15:33 5k
I know NYC course very well and while it's hilly I'm running upstate for most of this which is much hillier. I have very limited marathon experience and while I've done a bunch of runs over 20, the 21 miler is the only one I've done at close to what would be race effort. Is 2:37 a realistic goal?
Also, I have never really tapered for something like this before. last week I did about 80% (62 miles). What should I be looking at for the next week/race week? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
