Hi guys, I'm a washed up ex-runner currently doing some coaching at the HS level and I'm wondering, what kinds of stuff would it take to make the jump to work on a college staff?
I am interested in coaching as my career, and would like to know what smaller schools are looking for qualifications-wise. My degree is education related, but I have some coaching experience at the HS/MS level. None of the times are super impressive yet, however almost all of my runners thus far have seen serious improvement and this spring should be a good breakout season for a few of them. I'm currently a college student who coaches at a local school as the head coach. I'm very thankful for the job I have now because I have a ton of freedom in my approach to training and that's allowed me to experiment to see what works in my program.
When I'm trying to get a college job will I specifically need to have had kids run very fast times, or are there other criteria they want? I'm still trying to study up on training, if you have any books/articles to read that would be great too. Mainly right now I find myself going to coaching conferences when I can stir up the cash to go!
If any experienced coaches have advice for me I'd greatly appreciate it!
Thanks,
Coach
