48.8 split for Syd, wowsers.
I think that got reported because the morons at NBC can't subtract.
Looks more like *49.8*.
(Which is more like it looked in the race, actually.)

That’s nuts!
They would have both medaled in the 400m race.
Has anyone every doubles 400m/400mh?
They're certainly capable of making the finals but they would not have medalled in that 400
Those times were from standing starts.
Def sub 49 from the blocks.

No.
Wow, 2:56.7 for the US for a comfortable win! Great leg by Cherry on #2. Thought Gaye would challenge a little more on the last leg
2:57 for Jamaica and 2:58 for Belgium is pretty fast though!

Yep, I got that from the announcers, thanks for the correction.
quick math:
43.44!?
44.63
44.43
44.10
Regarding 4x4 splits, part of the 1st and 2nd leg issue is there's two ways to mark it (correct me if I'm wrong): from when the first runner crosses 400, or when they cross the changeover midpoint.
So for the women's race, you get two alternatives (both of these come from the IAAF results):
49.5 49.8 49.4 50.2
50.6 48.7 49.4 50.2
So which is the better one to use?

Fastest time in the world since 2008 Olympic final, if I'm not mistaken. Imagine that team with Michael Norman in good shape, you could chop off at least a second. I think Wil London will also run some real good times come next year, he simply looks faster than he did in the summer.

Not too shabby!

The midpoint of the exchange zone is the 400m mark and that's the correct spot to measure splits from. The idiots who get different results are stopping their watches when the baton changes runners which is incorrect.

I never thought we'd be able to medal with the Borlée twins aging (Jonathan isn't even here), nice surprise.
As a Belgian, I'm super proud that we qualified for all 3 finals of 4x400 (and thus for Tokyo) while only 1 of all our athletes was individually qualified for the 400m at this WC (Saccoor).
Jamaica's 4x400W DQd, GB get bronze.

That makes sense, sure. So which one of the two sets of splits found on the official results reflect the midpoint of the exchange zone?
Just want to confirm this post. So many people get confused about where to time splits in a 4x400.
Always time the BATON in the mid point of the zone. So, on the first exchange that is the 800 m start marks. The other exchanges are the finish lines. As a former 4x4 athlete and coach. That is the only fair way to do it.
And of course the lead off runner has a disadvantage of a standing start.
I think Boldon's announced splits were probably accurate. The splits on the screen were not.
So who ran the 43.44 leg and is that a legit open 400 time? Must have been Kerley?

When did the Kenyans take over? My wife called and it ran on the ipad so I missed about 5 minutes.
Lol, no professionalism then.
I would have declined the call, done my job, called her back from my phone.
What school did you go to again? Her?
Lol
the mid point of the exchange zone. that is where 400 meters is.

i would think the 2nd set. the midpoint of the exchange is past the start/finish, making the first runner's time longer.
