Regardless of what the sad fools on this forum say, woodbridge is one of the most constistently accurately measured 3 mile courses in the state, and nobody has ever run under 13:40 at that meet. In fact, nobody has ever run under 13:50, in any of the courses used. Get ready for a big year in California, because while he is the biggest, Nico Young is far from the only stud in the state.
The course is about 2.9. It's been measured several times each year and it has never been 3 miles. Not using a GPS either, that would be insane.

Know how I know you don't follow the sport, there have been like 5 Woodbridge courses. You don't even know what you are talking about.
Yeah this was their 4th year at Silverlakes and the third different course they have used. The 2016 and 2017 courses were different.

Well, this was only our 2nd year at the meet and the 3 mile course was exactly the same as the 3 mile course from last year, but times were faster all over the place. I didn't look at all the races, but of the ones I did look at, the times were much faster than last year. My top guy got 22nd in our varsity race with a time that would have put him 8th in the same race last year.
The weather was cooler than last year and conditions were perfecter in every regard.
My guys ran on the fast end of what I thought they could run for a true 3 mile course, but not way over the top of what I thought they could do.
My $.02
Varvas swears he measures ever course meticulously every year. There was a thread on here or one of the other message boards a couple of years ago where he describes the steps he takes to ensure accuracy.
So there was this kid who did all the pro stuff as a high schooler. I think his name was Galen something? Wonder what he's been up to lately.
If Nico's brother levels up, I wonder if the two plus Aschenbrenner can match the 1975 Hammond Indiana team which had three kids under 9:00 for 2 miles in the spring?

Exactly! As a pro, German’s job was to train and recover. As a high schooler, he worked at Applebee’s. He had a job like the majority of high schoolers. No prescribed supplements, cryotherapy treatments, etc. He didn’t go to altitude camp for a month to train and recover. Newbury Park lived the life of pro runners this summer. Just not a possible reality for most high schoolers for many reasons. You can’t deny it was an advantage unavailable to most.
And don’t forget German was 16 for most of the fall of his senior year.
When German was a senior , Mac Fleet was a junior and he was older than German.
German’ s senior year age was the age of most juniors making his high school times more impressive.

Goldstein and Sahlman the elder are already in about 9:10 shape with Lex Young around 9:20. 5 is of course extremely unlikely, but there is a remote possibility.

Testosterone injections? Thats not really pro stuff. More of an ethical choice.
In regards to people whining about the team training for a solid month in Big Bear and how impossible it is for most teams..... I'd kindly point out that there are a very small percentage of teams/runners who are at this level. I'm sure if given the choice knowing that you could run for a top program that many would make the sacrifice.
Also, putting a camp like this together is actually pretty cheap. Each kid puts in about 1K. Big Bear is actually pretty cheap during the summer and they can get a large cabin for 10-15K for the month.
You are completely out of touch with what the average high school kid can afford.
I was at Woodbridge and I can't get over how fast Nico ran. 13:39 is a performance that will be remembered.

Renting a cabin is very cheap and something for a group that size might only cost the group 1k a week. The big expense is food but if you eat pasta mainly it could be relatively cheap. Kids are paying $500-700 for one week camps all over the US. With 11 kids, costs could be same or less for an entire month because you aren't having to pay a staff. I coached a team that did our own week long camp with a cabin that housed 50 people and we only charged the kids $120 for everything. Not every kid on that team was coming from well off families either.
He’s down to 5 schools UNC Georgetown NAU Oregon and Stanford

Accurately measured? They changed the course last year because it was way too short the previous year.
