Hold on. Are you saying Mascarelli ran 17:04 last year and 17:07 this year?
If that's the case, I'm concerned for the girl. That's a plateau.

and if she ran faster you would be screaming that she is peaking in Sept
who knows why she ran a few ticks slower - maybe she meant to - maybe she had a very hard training week - weather was warm today do you have any idea what it was like last year?
it is only a few ticks nothing to get worked up over

Any ideas why the Northeast FL Regional race netted ratings so much higher on average versus how they ran at FLN?
You have to apply the secret formula, add 10 points for NE, and subtract 10 points for FLN.
Poor katelyn..her IG is filled with smh individuals.

yeah, how terrible that is? there are kids staving in this world and being abused by monsters, yet that's sooooooo dramatic that we should feel sorry for her because of an IG account that she doesn't even need to have. her world must be hell to live in (insert sarcasm). Grow up old man!

Today, Richard Springs Invite, in IL, Katelynn Hart broke the course record, ran 16.00 flat. Second place was 16.44, third 16.53.
Her speed rating came out at 154, with Methner at 189.
http://www.tullyrunners.com/XC2019/Ratings_Sept21.htm#Richard_SpringMasciarelli gets a 158 rating for her race. Top rated so far this year but with the following caveat:
***
Note ... Speed Ratings are UNCERTAIN and a Best Guess.
The course definitely ran slower than last year when
Sydney Masciarelli ran 17:04 to get a speed rating
of 148.67 ... Some of this year's seasonal speed ratings
from one CT meet have some inconsistencies, but others
support the speed ratings below.
Unfortunately it does not look like she will race Tuohy this season. Her team has a dual meet October 12, the day of Manhattan. So speed ratings will be all that we have with perhaps some common competitors between Manhattan and FL. Tuohy may only race hard several times. So the disagreements will continue.....
I don't really think there can be any debate in terms of who the best cross-country female Runner was last year
Tuohy had five speed ratings over 170 a couple more in the high 160s
I'm pretty sure only three other girls broke 160 and I'm pretty sure they all only did it once
Masciarelli had a great year and she's an awesome young Runner. But it's really not close if you look at the year they had last year in terms of overall season times. Tui was off the charts. Unless you're just rooting for someone there's no way to logically say she wasn't the best runner
For those concerned with her fitness, the Milesplit Workout Wednesday Video is up. 4 x 1 mile with 90 seconds rest in between. Target was 5:40. Results were 5:35/5:32/5:32/5:25. The "hard" workout for that week was supposed to be on Friday. https://www.milesplit.com/videos/404396
Wake me up when she runs a Speed Rating of at least 155 this season.
Chmiel earned 162, 163, and 162 at Great Meadows, NYPHSAA, and NXN respectively. I didn’t look for all the Saratoga result so I might have missed something else.
Masciarelli went 161 at FL Northeast and then 164 at FL Nationals (with Hart also receiving 164)
I’ll still give you that Tuohy clearly had the best performances of the season.
Masciarelli is up today at the Marianapolis Invite, her home turf. So let's see how she does. Just as a side note, most of the prep meets don't report times in to Mile split so they are more difficult to track. With public schools its more accessible. I don't think you can say she only ran two speed ratings over 160 without having all the data on the season.

I suggest you set your alarm clock for October 12 - Manhattan Invitational. She set the course record there 2 years ago, 13:21 which was a 166.
Masciarell will race at the NJ Shore Coaches Invitational on October 5 where Tuohy set the course record of 16:21. This should give a good comparison.
Charlotte Bednar who placed 12th as a freshman at NXN last fall is also scheduled to run the Shore Coaches Invitational. She hasn't raced on the Holmdel course yet.
Okay, was the entire team doing 4 x mile + the 400, 200? even the little itsy bitsy 8th graders?
Trying to hold her back, really? Goal pace of 5:40, does them all faster by a good amount and finishes the last two in the 5:20's?
This workout was on Wednesday, then a HARDER workout on Friday?

Did you watch the video? Did you see how easy those were for her? She wasn't even winded after the last one. It's not a hard workout for her - you have to use a different frame of reference than you would for any other high school girl.

Yes, I watched. The pace suggested by the coach was 5:40, he said she took a month off and they were trying to bring her along slowly. She did not follow the plan and he let it go.
And, she was being filmed, a little showing off for the camera maybe? Coach needs to rein that in. Having coached a good runner or two, they make things look easy, that is part of the reason they are so good. Fatigue is cumulative, lets see how this pans out? Last year she had to shut it down in case you misremembered, they have a tendency to get carried away there.
He sort of let it go. I'm guessing he knew that she was probably still in the threshold zone, at least for the first few. If she was five seconds fast on the last one, it's not going to do any damage. She's obviously champing at the bit to let loose. He's got his hands full trying to reign her in. She's going to need an escort on easy days.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
